I'm feeling so unispired about names for 2nd baby

Here are my rather lacklustre lists:

boys:

Jacob (but Jake sounds odd with our surname)

Joseph (too common? dh's grandad's name)

Aaron (dh hates)

Rufus (Wainwright? Also sounds a little like both my name and dh's)

Charlie (and Lola? also dh's other grandad's name)

Vincent (liked this at first but since noticed that very few sane and normal famous people have had this name... Vincent Van Gogh, Vinnie Jones, Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction)

Jasper (like this but there's a good chance he/she could have red hair like dd, and Jasper Carrot lingers in the popular consciousness...)

Girls:

Frida (as in Kahlo... too much like Freya?)

Violet (probably more as a middle name - my late grandmother's name.)

Alexandra (but dh would want to shorten to Sandy after a wonderful 60's folk singer but i think that's a little tacky)

Sophia (but lots of Sophies round here...)

Juliet

Josephine (hmm... i like how classic it is but still not sure)

Julia (gone off this actually, since i put it on my list)

Polly (love this for it's rootsy feel, but doesn't go with our dd's name)

Tess (timeless and literary but perhaps too monosyllabic?)

Audrey (Hepburn? or Corrie?! also has a similar feel to dh's name)

Theresa (hmm... or for 'long' with Tess as a nickname?)

Rosaline (or Rosalind?)

Nina (i like this as it travels well but might result in a lifetime of 'is that short for Christina?')

Beatrice (spent a lot of time watching The Wire before i got pregnant!)

Flora ( a nice oldie name, but maybe a bit wet for my tastes, prefer fiesty names)

Sylvie (i really like this but i don't know why. not keen on Sylvia, mind you)

Eve (or Evelyn, although quite popular round here. dh hates it, says it's an apocolyptic movie name!)

So there you go. i'm quite difficult to please, aren't i?

Boys...I like Joseph and Charlie. Yes they're both quite popular but they're classics and will always be fashionable.
NOOO to Jasper.....sounds like a dogs name.

Girls....I like Sophia and Tess.

thanks, you're probably right about Jasper, come to think of it...

I love Alexandra. (Have you considered Alexis as an alternative) Juliet is also quite nice.

I quite like Jacob (but then I've been reading Twilight )

My favourites from those are

Charlie, Jacob and Joseph

Juliet, Beatrice, Tess and Sophia.

I like Joseph (classic rather than over popular) and Rosalind (underused IMO).

never been so keen on Alexis (and now it makes me think of Alexa Chung, even though it's a different name iyswim) Quite like Alex as an androgynous shortening though.

Have you thought of Rosalie?

I like Charlie and Jacob/Joseph

out of your girl list, I like
Alexandra (but not sandy)
Sophia
Julia
and Josephine, clunky yet classic and pretty

Not keen on Tess myself, it just sounds like a dog's name to me (sorry!) and a short version of Theresa. I know a labrador named Flora.

All the others are nice, I love the name Violet as a middle name.

i'm never sure about pronunciation of Rosalie - should it be 'Rosalee' or 'Roz-alee' with the emphasis on the first syllable?

What about Tessa rather than Tess. Friends have just had a Tessa, a sister to Pippa.

Flora is NOT a wet name!
however, it is a name which will get its owner a lot of teasing ('Flora margarine' and 'bet you spread well' being some of them).

RUFUS

Rufus is an excellent name.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you it's a dog's name. They are lying.

Tessa is nice but dd's name has two very similar vowel sounds in it, come to think of it. God i'm fussy today! blame the pg hormones...

i like Alexandra/sandy too. but Alex is so popular now.

for boys i like joseph, rufus and jacob. but i love jonah and isaac (although they're not on your list!)

also like rosalie as suggested by someone, its pronounced rosalee.

but all the names on you list are pretty good.

Although Rufus also has something to do with red hair I think. William Rufus I think, called it for his red hair.

I like these...

Jacob
Joseph (don't think too common)

Sophia
Josephine (very lovely)

Embrace the redhaired theme. I know 2 redhaired kids (from different families) a girl called Hazel and a boy called Rowan!

I LOVE Tessa by the way and Sylvie is pretty too. When I had DS1, one of my DDBs on another forum called her daughter Sylvie Claire. Good luck picking!

Rosalind is lovely with Ros as a nn. I also like Josephine and DD2 was nearly this. DH always liked Jocelyn instead. Both could be Jos(s). Beatrice also lovely.

From your boys list I like Rufus and Joseph. Joe is a lovely nn.

nomorecake - i personally love Jonah, but dh won't have any of it 'we live by the sea! he'd get thrown off boats etc..'

myredcardigan - i've always been fond of Jocelyn come to think of it.

sunshinemummy- i'd totally forgotten about the Rufus, red-haired thing!

Beatrice love it
Flora would want something more sparky myself
Sylvie ok
Eve ok
