I am after some help naming my gorgeous daughter.

It has to be an Indian name, beginning with K.

Any ideas, or do you know of anyone with a K name (whether you like it or not).

Can't find anything out there!

thanks all

loobylu3 Thu 09-Jul-09 16:56:16

I have an aunt called Kamala and a cousin called Kavita both of which are pretty. That is an amazing list madre!!

shoshe Thu 09-Jul-09 17:02:14

A South African Friend of Indian Descent is called Kamini. I love it.

vanimal Thu 09-Jul-09 19:53:51

nomorecake Thu 09-Jul-09 21:37:56

on that long list, just noticed kanjri and kamini - dont go for these!! they have different meanings, to those on the list, in other parts of asia. (or they sound like words that dont have good meanings)

i like:

more traditional kaushalya.

vanimal Thu 09-Jul-09 23:30:18

Ah, good point about kanjri and kamini - I didn't think about that.

My older daughter is called Kajal, and the favourites for this one are Kiran or Kareena at the moment.

Anyone here think that having a kajal and a kareena is too cheesy (a la bollywood actress names)?

womblingalong Fri 10-Jul-09 09:13:20

Too Cheesy for me, I do love Kiran though, and Kavita 0r Kaya, for an easy for a Non Indian person to pronounce name!

WhatSheSaid Fri 10-Jul-09 09:20:40

I know a little girl called Kerala (dad Indian, mum Australian)

sis Fri 10-Jul-09 09:50:40

I like Kavita mainly because it means poem/poetry.

Sunshinemummy Fri 10-Jul-09 10:03:27

I know a Kavita and a Kiran (mother and daughter). Kavita is called Kate by all her friends. Both lovely names.

loobylu3 Fri 10-Jul-09 10:26:33

Kiran is okay but can be used as a boy's name too so is not feminine enough for me personally.
Kareena is pretty and perhaps more multicultural sounding (Carina). It could also be shortened to Reena which is pretty. Oh, and I think it is easier for the average British person to pronounce too than Kiran or Kavita which sound prettier said with an Indian accent!
I'm not sure if they are bollywood type names as I'm not into bollywood movies I'm afraid!! I certainly don't think most people in this country would think of that at all!
Good luck choosing!

nomorecake Fri 10-Jul-09 11:11:24

Kamal is nice, but only with the proper indian pronounciation.
sounds wrong in english.

passionfruity Fri 10-Jul-09 12:02:56

Kamal = Camel?!
Kashi - Cushy?

My faves from the list are:
Kaia / Keya
Kala (sounds like Carla)

mumoverseas Fri 10-Jul-09 13:08:58

i went to school with a Kavita. Lovely name

nomorecake Fri 10-Jul-09 13:09:14

the proper pronounciation, isnt camel or cushy.
so living here, it makes more sense to choose names that sound ok in english too.

chandellina Wed 15-Jul-09 21:28:16

i know a Kaveri - really like that name
