Hello,

Not due til October but love thinking of names - my husband is next to useless he just looks through the baby name book finding the silliest names known to man. Men! hmm

Anyway here is my list (for now) - thoughts? Oh and I am Dutch (although lived here a long time now) so that explains some of my choices. I find boys names hard!!

Girls

Astrid
Saskia
Freya
Claudia
Heidi
Belle
Ingrid

Middle name = Verity

Boys

Dylan
Jude
Joel
Jacob
Isaac
Billy
Samuel
Leo
Caleb
Sebastian

Middle name = Jordan

Although some of these have had the 'no-no' from daddy - we'll see! wink

Dumbledoresgirl Thu 25-Jun-09 15:50:26

I think, given your heritage, your girls' names are all suitable and Verity is a gorgeous name. I was only lamenting earlier that I did not have a second dd so I could name her Verity.

The boys' names are mainly good too, though I don't see why Jordan is such a popular name these days.

Which ones has your dh no-noed?

Deemented Thu 25-Jun-09 15:55:27

Not all that keen on any of your girls names, although i adore Verity - it's lovely - any reason why it can't be used as a first name?

Out of your boys names i like Caleb best.

VAB Thu 25-Jun-09 15:57:04

I love Verity, it's my sisters names so that's a cert - as is Jordan because it is my husband's name...

I find boys names hard to get something different without being too wacky. Or nice and traditional without being too common.

Husband's just comes up with silly suggestions like Terry or Gordon!! Idiot. grin

VAB Thu 25-Jun-09 15:58:42

Oh I forgot - husband has said no/turned his nose up at:

Claudia
Heidi

Jude
Jacob
Caleb

He is so flipping fussy but useless at suggesting anything!!

Dumbledoresgirl Thu 25-Jun-09 15:59:25

How about Robert for a nice traditional but not very popular boys name?

VAB Thu 25-Jun-09 16:13:48

Robert is my father-in-laws name! There's always something isn't there...

Names reminding of someone horrid at school etc.

Dumbledoresgirl Thu 25-Jun-09 16:19:23

LOL at me picking your FIL's name. But I do think there are nice, traditional and not much used names out there for boys, similar to Robert.

I had great difficulty naming my children something traditional with no associations as I had taught for many years. I still feel uncomfortable with my youngest son's middle name because it was chosen by dh but was also the name of a particularly weedy child in a school I taught in.

Deemented Thu 25-Jun-09 16:30:13

I like names that are unusual, but not completely well... demented grin

I have a Ciaran, Brennan and a Brogan. For this one i really like Roan, Wynter, Verity, Mali and Marnie for girls and for boys i like Carson, Jethro, Fenton and Malaki.

Astrid, or Saskia - both lovely

Leo by far the best of your boys names!

Gattina83 Thu 25-Jun-09 21:26:23

ALL gorgeous have 17 children!
Freya is a fave and i know a really cool fashionable beautiful Ingrid, Heidi might not be taken seriously as a business woman, i don't think Belle sounds right with Verity (imo).
Not keen on Jordan with the first 4 on your list, although i like all the names, Billy Jordan sounds cool and Samuel Jordan
Boys are definately harder!

Thanks all!!

Hmmm it's so hard and everybody likes/hates some names - can't please everyone...

Sat down with husband last night and he is just useless!!

We ended up with:

Astrid (which is my middle name)
Saskia
Freya

Dylan
Sebastian
and one other but I can't remember!!

My absolute favourite for a girl would be *Claudia Verity* - but he really doesn't like it. Silly man.angry

jeanjeannie Fri 26-Jun-09 11:06:34

LOVE Saskia - gorgeous. My DD2 is called Verity, so that's a good choice too!

Really like Jacob and Isaac - not keen on the rest, but then again, I'm useless with boys names!

BlackEyedDogstar Fri 26-Jun-09 11:13:29

What a lovely list!

I LOVE Astrid am considering this for my October dd (but have no Nordic reasons to choose it but hey ho)

My ds is Leo so love this too obviously.

Saskia

Claudia

also like a lot

becklespeckle Fri 26-Jun-09 11:16:05

Lovely list! I love Freya best of your girl's names and Jacob (followed very closely by Leo) of the boy's ones grin

Ondine Fri 26-Jun-09 11:33:07

Astrid - I really like it, über chic. But not faddish.
Saskia - I think in England at least this name has gone to the chavs.
Freya - I like this as well, it's quite popular though. Personally I'd go for Astrid.

Dylan - It's a dog names imo.
Sebastian - Very nice.

VAB Fri 26-Jun-09 11:54:18

Ahh just remembered the other boys names... Dexter. Which I have liked for a long time but fear it is a bit too trendy at the moment.
