Am intrigued as I love the way I would pronounce it but want to see if you all suggest the the same?

MaryBS Thu 25-Jun-09 07:15:18

I'd probably go for A-may-a, but I might say A-my-a...

Tambajam Thu 25-Jun-09 07:15:18

A - my - ya

WhatSheSaid Thu 25-Jun-09 07:19:34

I looked after a girl called Amaaya, that's how her name was pronounced.

I would never go for a name that it difficult to pronounce,if you are thinking of it, she will have a lifetime of explaining it and spelling it.

TrillianAstra Thu 25-Jun-09 07:54:44

ah-MY-yah

OrmIrian Thu 25-Jun-09 07:59:27

I wouldn't.

MrsBun Thu 25-Jun-09 10:25:15

Thing is I have a fairly recognized name but STILL have to spell it out sometimes. I figured if it is short it doesnt matter so much unlike Tallulah for example?? Does anyone think it is pretty? I would pronounce it at Ah -my -ya

claireybee Thu 25-Jun-09 10:29:35

Uh may a or uh my a

bethoo Thu 25-Jun-09 10:29:45

yes it is lovley.
my dd is called Maia and it is pronounced my-a
be warned though no matter how often you tell people her name they will still pronounce it wrong! people sometimes call her Mia pronounced mee-ya which annoys me! i always say think of how you would say thai and it rhymmes with that!

MrsBun Thu 25-Jun-09 10:30:41

Thanks Claireybee uh-my-a is more like it.

MrsBun Thu 25-Jun-09 10:35:43

Thanks Bethoo. I think it's really pretty and different. I find girls names sooooo much harder.

A-may-a.
Does it have Asian roots?

Astrophe Thu 25-Jun-09 15:06:47
