Love it. Think of Sense and Sensibility. But if you would call her Annie then why not name her Annie?

thanks lady

because I love Marianne - I think its very elegant, and I like to think that she would be able to choose to use it later on in life, but day-to-day I think I would prefer to use a shortened version (my son is Joey, although I love Joseph!)

I think it's lovely. But a shame to call her Annie as she will then be Annie to all who know her and she may not get to use the full version of a beautiful name.

Marianne is lovely, Annie is ok.

I wouldn't choose Marianne if I wanted to call her Anne or Annie.

I like it - I know a really, really lovely Marianne and 'Annie' is a cute alternative until she grows into it.

I know its hard not to associate names - what I'm hoping is that DH wont be able to associate Marianne with anyone else and therefore won't vetto it immediately!

very pretty name - and Annie too.

I don't understand why you would choose one name and then only use the abbreviation. Why not just call her Annie?

I really like Marianne but my surname is Minahan so it sounds ridiculous...

good choice

Love it, beautiful and timeless. But then you clearly have faultless taste if you already have a Joseph

oh poo - have just got back from my scan and they couldnt tell me the sex cos the cord was between its legs.

Love it but wouldn't shorten it as it's too nice as it is.

It is probably my favourite girls' name, absolutely beautiful. (not so keen on Annie though)

nigglewiggle · 23/06/2009 20:34

It's lovely and I prefer the abbreviation of Mari as Fimbo suggests.

I love it - it's my name for mythical dd3. less fond of Annie.

'My' Marianne (who will never be, sadly) would be Marianne Darcy (spot the Austen links) or Marianne Elinor (ditto) or Marianne Elizabeth (and once more!) and would be nicknamed Mari or Mimi.

I just think of Marianne Faithfull and the incident involving her, Mick Jagger and a Mars Bar (I am sure it was her and not one of the other gf's).

Love, love, love, love Annie though!
