One of the boy's names we both love is William (would use Will or Bill) but our surname is Williams! Having trouble finding another boy's name we love. Welsh for preference. Would this be cruel? Am thinking it didn't seem to harm David Davies or Edward Wooodward..

its freaky, he would be teased

GreatGooglyMoogly Wed 17-Jun-09 16:20:45

There was a boy at school with me called Donald Donaldson and we all took the mickey I'm afraid.

Fimbo Wed 17-Jun-09 16:21:58

No! Don't do it!

ScummyMummy Wed 17-Jun-09 16:22:45

You are joking, no?

chipmonkey Wed 17-Jun-09 16:25:16

I met a Martin Martin and was lectured in college by a Brian O'Brien.
Please don't do it!

Fimbo Wed 17-Jun-09 16:32:26

We used to have a client at work - Mrs Joyce only probably was her first name was also Joyce.

I think in those circumstances I would have kept my maiden name.

madwomanintheattic Wed 17-Jun-09 16:36:10

he'll just get called 'will squared' or something similar.
tis a bit weird for me, but quite a lot of people seem to do it...
my faves are of the chris cross variety though

shadowofacow Wed 17-Jun-09 16:44:11

we had a nicholas nicholson in my class at school.

he also got teased a lot!!

purpleduck Wed 17-Jun-09 16:46:58

yea - don't do it. Seems slightly unimaginative...seriously, out of thousands of names in the world, the ONLY one you like is the one you already have...?
grin

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern Wed 17-Jun-09 18:25:50

shadowofacow spooky I was going to say I knew a Nicholas Nicholoson too wonder if it was the same one.

elvislives Wed 17-Jun-09 18:32:42

Bill Williams is a very common name IME. Of all the hundreds of names out there I'm sure there would be something a little more personal.

Tambajam Wed 17-Jun-09 18:33:00

You cannot call a child William Williams. Surely, you can't. Wouldn't there be a crack in the space-time continuum or something. You could be risking the universe.

bumptwitknocker Wed 17-Jun-09 18:59:07

I knew a Richard Richardson. It's like handing the insult to the bully.

weegiemum Wed 17-Jun-09 19:01:30

I've taught - Donald Macdonald, Murdo McMurdo, and, fabulously. Auley Macauley! (in North of Scotland)

No, don't do it.

belgo Wed 17-Jun-09 19:02:47

You just can't. David Davies and Edward Woodward aren't the same as William Williams.

I'm sure I heard of the name Gwillim? Is that welsh?

shadowofacow Wed 17-Jun-09 19:02:59

did you go to school is scotland?

or are there two poor nicholas nicholsons wandering about grin

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern Wed 17-Jun-09 20:36:37

shadowofacow erm I certainly did shock I wasn't at the same school as him I used to get the train home after school think he got one too although not sure but he was there most days, t'was in Aberdeen.

clumsymum Wed 17-Jun-09 20:45:50

I am related to a John Johnson, and thought that was a pretty unimaginative choice.

NO NO no, William Williams is just ...... daft.

Go to the library, or to Amazon, get one of those books of baby names, and work thru it.

FGS there are 1000's of names in the world, there must be something you like.

When we had ds, our problem was cutting down the shortlist. As it is we had to give him 3 christian names.

janeite Wed 17-Jun-09 20:50:06

V silly.

clumsymum Wed 17-Jun-09 20:51:13

You can start tonight, with this list. There are several hundred here alone, many of which I couldn't even start to pronounce, I admit.

Even Vaughn is on that list. Now, Vaughn Williams, that has a nice musical sound to it grin

Tidey Wed 17-Jun-09 20:54:14

I've heard of a child called Tyler Tyler. William Williams isn't quite that bad, but I would really seriously think hard about this and see if you can find some other names you love.

shadowofacow Wed 17-Jun-09 20:56:37

aww no its not the same one.

i went to school in edinburgh.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern Thu 18-Jun-09 09:34:22

Bizarrly enough I do know he moved to Edinburgh but I suppose it depends on how young you were when you knew him.

PenelopePitstops Thu 18-Jun-09 09:36:35

dont do it, i knew a david davis!

WHY do people do this!!?
