Meredith is a very lovely name.

DD2 would have been Meredith except that we are good friends with a Meri and it was too close for use but love the name.

Maybe your hairdresser watches Grey's Anatomy? I don't watch it, but someone pointed out to me that Meredith is one of the main characters when I was considering Meredith for our prospective DC. That didn't necessarily put me off, but realised that Edith is a nn that we're not fond of.

Maybe your hairdresser just has no taste, and no tact??

It's a nice name.
Yes, it is the main character in Grey's anatomy but she's quite a cool character - intelligent, independent, a good friend. She often gets called 'Mere' as a nickname on the show.

I always thought Meredith was a woman's name as in Meredith Brooks but since moving to Wales I have come across quite a few male Merediths. Don't know if that would affect your decision or not.
I don't watch Grey's so not familiar with that character.
Your hairdresser was quite rude

Hi

Well as I have a DD Meredith I have to say its a fabulous name

I an not however so keen on Meri as a nickname so fingers crossed she stays just Meredith!

This name seems to be becoming quite popular and i can't see why. I'm afraid I'm with your hairdresser on this on and think it's awful.

Makes me think of Vicky Pollard - she always mentions 'Meredith' in her rants - i especially remember Meredith getting fingered by the swings!

It has chavvy connotations for me.

I rather like it actually!

Report
violethill · 13/06/2009 19:24

I associate it more as a male name. Middle aged Welsh male!

Have taught a female one once and she was, erm shall we say chavvy, which puts me off!

Report
madlentileater · 13/06/2009 19:41

love it!
what does it mean though?
was often disappointed to discover names I liked meant things like 'mighty warrior of the Lord'!
maybe not with Meredith though.
