Meredith is a very lovely name.

BakewellTarts Fri 12-Jun-09 15:56:09

DD2 would have been Meredith except that we are good friends with a Meri and it was too close for use but love the name.

Maybe your hairdresser watches Grey's Anatomy? I don't watch it, but someone pointed out to me that Meredith is one of the main characters when I was considering Meredith for our prospective DC. That didn't necessarily put me off, but realised that Edith is a nn that we're not fond of.

Maybe your hairdresser just has no taste, and no tact?? hmm

I love it.

Greensleeves Fri 12-Jun-09 19:43:57

love nn Merry

What a rude cow. I'd change hairdressers it's a lovely name.

silverfrog Fri 12-Jun-09 19:44:13

I love it. dh wouldn't even let me shortlist it for dd2 <sulks>

Tambajam Fri 12-Jun-09 19:56:03

It's a nice name.
Yes, it is the main character in Grey's anatomy but she's quite a cool character - intelligent, independent, a good friend. She often gets called 'Mere' as a nickname on the show.

Sidge Fri 12-Jun-09 19:57:55

I think it's lovely!

Raahh Fri 12-Jun-09 20:00:08

i love it, Edie is a lovely nn too.

barnsleybelle Fri 12-Jun-09 20:26:47

I think it's lovely. Was on our list. Go for it.

I always thought Meredith was a woman's name as in Meredith Brooks but since moving to Wales I have come across quite a few male Merediths. Don't know if that would affect your decision or not.
I don't watch Grey's so not familiar with that character.
Your hairdresser was quite rude shock

Gorgeous. Will def be my dd2 if we get one.

pranma Sat 13-Jun-09 12:56:55

Well as I have a DD Meredith I have to say its a fabulous name

I an not however so keen on Meri as a nickname so fingers crossed she stays just Meredith!

Nancy66 Sat 13-Jun-09 17:18:11

This name seems to be becoming quite popular and i can't see why. I'm afraid I'm with your hairdresser on this on and think it's awful.

Makes me think of Vicky Pollard - she always mentions 'Meredith' in her rants - i especially remember Meredith getting fingered by the swings!

It has chavvy connotations for me.

Chilimama Sat 13-Jun-09 17:25:10

I think it's lovely. Can't believe your hairdresser laughed, how rude!

brimfull Sat 13-Jun-09 17:27:50

it is quite a serious sounding name

peppapig3 Sat 13-Jun-09 19:22:16

I rather like it actually!

violethill Sat 13-Jun-09 19:24:02

I associate it more as a male name. Middle aged Welsh male!

Have taught a female one once and she was, erm shall we say chavvy, which puts me off!
