Is there only one Winona (Ryder)?

I love the name Winona but DH thinks it's too unique to Ms Ryder.

If you do use it, everyone will assume that it was after her. You'll be sick of the 'Oh, as in Ryder' comments..

Winona Ryder is named after a town in the US, which itself is named after a Native American word

Geographically, it's a very southern/country-western name in the US, and is in fact Native American. Would be common there, but here would probably only be associated with Winona Ryder. Ms Judd is spelt Wynonna (she and her mother Naomi are country singers, sister of actress Ashley)

Winona means first born daughter. i like it but i really like Winnie as a nickname too.

I think Winona Ryder is enough out of the picture you'd be fairly safe. You'd just have to hope she doesn't have a resurgence as a porn star or something.
