I heard this on a girl recently and I quite like it, what do you think of it for a girl?

aGalChangedHerName Sat 06-Jun-09 23:15:45

Don't like it at all.

stubbyfingers Sat 06-Jun-09 23:16:15

not good. bad connotations. sorry.

littlelamb Sat 06-Jun-09 23:16:27

Ferris Bueller

ScummyMummy Sat 06-Jun-09 23:16:47

Really dreadful! It's a term of abuse, isn't it?

Clary Sat 06-Jun-09 23:17:09

As in Ranger? hmm

mrswoolf Sat 06-Jun-09 23:26:29

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

janeite Sat 06-Jun-09 23:33:22

I think it's absolutely awful. Sorry.

yousaidit Sat 06-Jun-09 23:33:46

it does make 'ranger' spring to mind.

hmmm, it does seem with its connotations that its more a slangy nick-name than a childrens name based on an area.

if you like using place names as baby names are there other names you could consider?

Paolosgirl Sat 06-Jun-09 23:34:21

Oh good grief.

Tinker Sat 06-Jun-09 23:36:28

Um, why?

RockinSockBunnies Sat 06-Jun-09 23:46:09

Sloane Square?
Sloane Ranger?

No, sorry, don't like it at all.

Tommy Sat 06-Jun-09 23:58:07

no

Pingpong Sun 07-Jun-09 00:02:22

no

UniS Sun 07-Jun-09 00:34:43

no.
Slone was the derogatory name given to lazy rich kids at university on daddy's money.

muggglewump Sun 07-Jun-09 00:38:55

No.

LobstersLass Sun 07-Jun-09 00:47:52

Terrible.

Unabel Sun 07-Jun-09 01:03:47

There are no words quite fitting enough to describe my disgust for it. Sorry, it's awful. Sloane Rangers aside, it sounds like the name of some sort of slug/sloth hybrid.

Deemented Sun 07-Jun-09 07:15:11

Methinks someone has been watching too much daytime TV... Diagnosis Murder, perchance?

Tambajam Sun 07-Jun-09 07:59:13

Sloane is an insult. Are you aware of that and this is a joke? It's like calling someone 'snob' or 'idiot'. Not a great idea really.
If you like the sound why not make up your own version: gloane, foane...

Stannie Sun 07-Jun-09 08:49:45

Oddly.. I like it.. but would also be put off by the associations made with it.. although the first Sloane I thought of was Ferris Bueller! (like littlelamb)

MrsMattie Sun 07-Jun-09 13:13:28

Urgh! Hideous.

Bonneville Sun 07-Jun-09 13:24:16

Another silly (non) 'name'.

frazzledgirl Sun 07-Jun-09 13:26:58

Another one here who loathed all the baseball-capped braying Sloane twunts at university.

Don't do it!

poppysweetie Sun 07-Jun-09 13:32:13

I am sorry I really dont like it, just makes me think of ladies driving to Sloane Square in 4 by 4s and checked shirts
