What do you think of Jay?

cthea Sat 30-May-09 22:21:42

Sounds like a missed opportunity for a "proper" name.

Clary Sat 30-May-09 22:24:02

Jay as in Jay Gatsby? (my fave book).

I know a woman called Jay actually, that's the only RL one I know. She is very nice and v v smart grin

And dull.

MrsMattie Sun 31-May-09 10:44:52

I like it for a girl. Not so keen for a boy. I know a great, kick-arse woman called Jay.

NancyPreg Sun 31-May-09 12:25:24

I like it but I prefer Jayden, simply because I'm not mad on names with just one syllable.

boodleboot Sun 31-May-09 12:26:57

i quite like it because i really like bird names...

Boulders Sun 31-May-09 19:09:02

I like it but really dislike Jayden.

Ponders Sun 31-May-09 19:10:53

I know a female Jay (aged 24)

lotspot Sun 31-May-09 20:04:07

i know a 17 year old Jay who suits it quite well

i always feel it should be short for something though - quite like it as short for a name becginning with the letter J eg James or Jennifer rather tha names with Jay in them - dunno why

wahwahwah Sun 31-May-09 20:07:30

Homer Simpson!

Hassled Sun 31-May-09 20:09:44

I know a Jay named after Jay Gatsby - I think it's a nice name.

LoveBuckets Sun 31-May-09 22:43:19

Like it for a girl, as a bird name. Don't like it for a boy because it sounds like the initial - when I was a yoof drugdealers tend to be known just by their initial so I have that peculiar connotation.

Love for a boy, dislike Jayden

cthea Mon 01-Jun-09 10:00:57

No, not Jayden.

Lulubee Mon 01-Jun-09 21:33:04

Always have loved the name, and then I ended up marrying one! I think's it's funky and quite 'cool' - also reminds me of the bird, which is one of the prettiest birds around.

Lulubee Mon 01-Jun-09 21:34:39

I think's? blush

bargainhuntingbetty Mon 01-Jun-09 21:37:03

Love it, love it, love it. I am a creche worker and I did a creche for a wee boy called Jay and I absolutely loved the name. I hadnt heard it before and I LOVE it. Go for it.

fannybanjo Mon 01-Jun-09 21:38:47

My DH is Jay and if he turns out anything as wonderful and lovely as him, then you will be proud of having a Jay.

fucksticks Mon 01-Jun-09 21:40:22

I'm surprised its so liked. To me it seems exactly like Jayden ie. chav central

Tommy Mon 01-Jun-09 21:40:51

I have an Uncle Jay - short for Jeremy so I always think of that.

I know one little boy called Jay - he is sweet but the name is a bit short for me. I prefer a name that you could shorten if you wanted

JoPie Tue 02-Jun-09 10:50:17

My DS is Jacob, but known to everyone as Jay. I love it.

Tinker Tue 02-Jun-09 23:27:53

I think of Jay Osmond (am old) or Jay Rayner (yuk). Are lots of older Jays really Jasons?
