Was reading Red magazine the other day and there were two mentions of women named Clover. I hadn't really thought of it before but the more I think about it the more I like it.

Anyone with me?

I know a Clova.

MrsMattie Tue 26-May-09 13:15:06

Cow's name

ninedragons Tue 26-May-09 13:15:17

The Lord Mayor of Sydney is a Clover.

It's not for me. Unless you're naming a calf, or possibly a rabbit. GREAT name for a rabbit.

Clover - i bet she spreads easily....

GetOrfMoiLand Tue 26-May-09 13:22:07

Lol MrsMattie, that's exactly what I was just about to post.

I cannot imagine it being said in anything other than a very strong Devon farmers accent (Clooow-VERRRRR) grin

I like it. V What Katy Did.

VintageGardenia Tue 26-May-09 13:23:11

Katie Carr's sister, shorely, not Devon milkers.

GetOrfMoiLand Tue 26-May-09 13:26:04

No, conjures up image of a dozy, big jersey cow.

MrsWeasley Tue 26-May-09 13:27:01

Beautiful name imho.

Clover was the sister of Katy Carr from the "What Katy Did" books which I totally adored as a child.grin

It would be a nice name if it wasn't for the margarine.

See also Flora? wink

I think animal names should be reclaimed... I love so many:

My dad had a lovely Paint horse called Clover.

HellHathNoFury Tue 26-May-09 15:56:29

I used to look after a lovely horse called Clover.
Mad as a box of frogs.

Nice name, but not to my taste for a human, personally.

Having said that I want to name DS a name that seems more commonly associated with dogs or old men.

BettySwollux Tue 26-May-09 15:57:48

Lovely, if you have another 2 DD you can call them Flora and Marge hmm.

Dont do it.

TheGashlycrumbTinies Tue 26-May-09 15:58:28

One of DD's "My Little Pony" is called Clover. She has a four leaf clover on her bottom, and always wins at everything.

OracleInaCoracle Tue 26-May-09 15:58:38

i thought of katy carr's younger (cooler) sister before the margarine.

i really like it.

SamsMama Tue 26-May-09 15:58:49

A good friend of mine is in labor as we speak, and if she has a girl she'll be Clover. (A boy will be Phoenix)
I quite like it. It's no different really than Lily or Rose.

I know a small girl named THERE'S a cow's name!

Lulubee Tue 26-May-09 21:33:02

I think it's lovely, immediately made me think of Clover Carr too. But does it pass the kick ass lawyer test? I can't imagine it on a grown woman...

boodleboot Tue 26-May-09 21:42:34

....cos they all love clover.....all over the land....yes they alllll love la la la dee....

that said {or sung} i do actually like it and know a very pretty 25 yr old clover who loves her name and really suits it....

RachieB Tue 26-May-09 23:47:41

I love the names Clover and Flora

but obviously wouldn't ever use them !

CheerfulYank Wed 27-May-09 16:31:40

Well whatever you think of the name, there's another Clover in the world now! My friend just had her first DC this morning, and that was the name they chose.

We don't have clover margarine here so I suppose that helps.

I think it's lovely but to be honest who cares what anyone else thinks?

It's your baby and if you like it then go for it.
