That's our longlist, but please suggest other similarish options!

TIA

I really like Patrick, Niall, Dara and Hugh and Gabriel
Are you in Ireland?
Felix makes me think cat
Bran makes me think flakes

Wonderstuff Fri 15-May-09 20:45:35

If its any consilation we had a name from day one but I called her baby girl for at least 2 months.

SoupDragon Fri 15-May-09 20:45:52

I don't like Dara, Bran or Hugh.

ministryofsleep Fri 15-May-09 20:46:52

Love Love Love Dara and Felix
Like Gabriel
and reserve judgement on Patrick and Hugh
have you considered 'Myles'? Does depend on your surname though!

fucksticks Fri 15-May-09 20:47:32

Bran??? prefer Oats

On a more serious note I love Felix, like Patrick and Gabriel, ambivalent about Hugh and Niall and HATE Dara and Bran

HTH

MrsMattie Fri 15-May-09 20:47:45

Gabriel or Dara. Both beautiful.

seeker Fri 15-May-09 20:48:06

My ds is Patrick. He's 8, and we've never met another one under about 40. I think it's a brilliant name - we've never had anything but positive comments.

frAKKINPannikin Fri 15-May-09 20:48:34

I dislike Hugh (makes me think of Fearnley-Whittingstall).
Bran with the long a? Braaan? I like. But other people will pronounce as in flakes.
Felix - lovely name, auspicious meaning.
Gabriel nice but not too stuck on Gabe as a short.
Dara is nice but brings to mind Dara O'Brien being a whale....

Patrick is lovely, as is Niall.

theboyneedsaname Fri 15-May-09 20:48:36

Not in Ireland, but DP Irish and other DC have Irish names.

Thanks to all so far.

tigana Fri 15-May-09 20:48:38

Felix is forever tainted by the catfood ad for me.

I like Patrick and I quite like Hugh.

pavlovthepregnantcat Fri 15-May-09 20:50:18

I know a hippy called Bran, he is a very cool dude. He works hard doing youth work in the day, at weekends he organises festivals. A down to earth man, his name really really suits him and I love it.

In fact....{gets pen out for own list}

seeker Fri 15-May-09 20:51:27

Please don't go for Dara - it sounds like a girl's name even though it isn't.

theboyneedsaname Fri 15-May-09 20:55:53

Love hearing your opinions as DP and I have kept all names to ourselves so far and have no idea how the world views them.

Seeker - do you use Paddy for short? Good to hear too that it's not very popular.

Myles sounds rather too posh, but would go with DP's surname.

Seems most people think of cereal with Bran though, and that's how we'd pronounce it too.

tigana Fri 15-May-09 20:56:08

Sean?

screamingabdab Fri 15-May-09 20:57:25

I love Patrick (Actually I do love Patrick -he's my DH smile

Gabriel is lovely too.

NOT Bran or Felix, sorry

theboyneedsaname Fri 15-May-09 20:59:13

Sean already going to be a middle name

loler Fri 15-May-09 20:59:31

I've got a Patrick too - have only met 2 others. When we told people his name when he was born we got lots of funny reactions but now everyone comments on how nice a name it is. Probably a big name for a tiny baby.

He gets called lots of different nick names but most frequent in the family is Patch.

Another positive is that it's a name that isn't common but everyone can spell.

Good luck with the naming - I think the longer you leave it the harder it gets!

StayFrosty Fri 15-May-09 20:59:42

Fintan

Oisin

Ruairi

Stinkermink Fri 15-May-09 21:01:26

Dara - might go through life with people asking him to repeat it.
Bran - No, how about Bryn?
Gabriel - like
Patrick - like, but love the idea of Paddy
Felix - the cat...
Hugh - peyoooo smells
Niall - the best one, cool and a bit different

Miles is nice

How about...
Matthew
Robin
Alistair
Niles

tigana Fri 15-May-09 21:02:20

grin

Murphy?
Milo?

(am trying to think of irish people I know in case any have suitable names...so far I have Petra and Gareth...!! So, no then!)
