Ds's name is REALLY cool. It leapt out at us, instantly perfect, and it suits ds down to the ground.

Do you think we can repeat that? Can we, hell. And at 38+5 we're kinda thinking we should, you know, get on with it. Just in case.

Anyone else got a similar headache?

what is ds's name? might help us come up with equally cool name

Did have, but we've sorted it now. Now I'm feeling almost sad at not being able to use the name if our new baby is a girl. Our perfect girl name suddenly went not so perfect on us too. Do you know it's a boy?

I had the same problem. Ds1 is Ross and we struggled to find a name we liked as much. We have called ds2 (9 weeks already!) Kerr and we love it - he really suits his name and it's not overly fashionable.

Go for it!

Ds is Antero - it's Finnish for Andrew - and he gets called Tero. Sadly no other Finnish names are leaping out this time round.

mrsgboring. And no, we don't know it's a boy...

actually if anyone knows a good site that gives variations of names (like Antero is a variation of Andrew) that'd be helpful.

also if I could have a backrub please...

www.babynamespedia.com/ will give you a map of more common names and their variations. Not sure if it has Finnish names on it though.

Is there a boy variant of your chosen girl name?

Report
WowOoo · 26/03/2009 12:13

I have just borrowed a book that has all versions: A-Z of baby names publisher Igloo if that helps?

Lots of the names I'm considering are lovely in French/Spanish but not so in English. can't think of any examples!

Suppose you've already googled top 100 Finnish names...

Sympathies phplife, get yourself one of those neat little plastic things which the ants go in to to reach the poison, safe to use in the kitchen, you can just slide one under the cooker or fridge etc where no child or pet can reach - takes a week or two to work but 100% sucessful and keeps 'em away for at least a year, I used 2 and got no more ants for 2 years.

In my current house we get SLUGS coming in - major UGGGGG! And I don't mean tiny little slugs, I mean BIG ugly ones. Cue me spending DAYS on all fours putting pollyfilla in every minute little gap I could find...

At least ants are clean and less gross to squash...

I know the feeling. We're struggling to name no3, we've already used our favourite girl's and boy's name. Maybe we'll think of something when we finally meet him/her.

I really like Magnus, but DH vetoed it. St Magnus Cathedral on Orkney mmmmmmmm. Have a bit of a northern Saint thing going on though - also love Cuthbert, Ninian, Columba and Aidan. Even Bede. But would never be allowed to use them in a million years.

well we are both being silly now - dh has resorted to his favorite (Wolverine) so I'm going with mine (Shackleton). Better hope it's a girl

Try www.behindthename.com. It even has a random name generator, you can put your surname in too to see how it matches up!

I had the same thought as earlgreytea - Finn!

have found this website which i am sure you have also found - am smiling because I didn't know that Stig was a genuine Finnish name - only know it from Stig of the Dump.

However - Stefan and Sebastian are in the S list as well - both of which I like (you might not of course!)

I like that random name generator. Bit like sticking a finger in a baby names book.

And I'm not going to call my son Carlyle Russell XXXXXX.

Fun though!

I liked it too. It suggested Miles Lynwood (boy) or Fleurette Monday (girl)for my baby. I might consider Miles. But if it's a girl it's definitely not going to be Fleurette Monday!

Fleurette Monday...almost as nice as Dan Urias XXXXXX (second suggestion)

I have Finnish colleagues called Marko and Jarmo if that's any help!

We had fun with DS1 trying to find inappropriate names when coupled with our surname.
