Really love this name for a girl. What does everybody else think?

MrsBadger Fri 30-Jan-09 11:47:22

have you made it up?

Tara? Maya?

chloejessmeg Fri 30-Jan-09 11:48:18

No I didn't make it up!

Never heard of Maya. Don't like Tara

MmeLindt Fri 30-Jan-09 11:49:14

Hiya Taya

MrsJoeMcIntyre Fri 30-Jan-09 11:49:38

Never heard of it. Prefer Maya and Tara ha ha!

MrsBadger Fri 30-Jan-09 11:49:59

Tanya? Leah? Leia?

where did you hear Taya?

CountessDracula Fri 30-Jan-09 11:51:39

is it pronounced Tay-er or Tai-er?
Acutally I don't like it either way!
It doesn't pass the playground test AT ALL

listenglisten Fri 30-Jan-09 11:52:38

My ds (age 7) has a Taya in his class, I quite like it.

listenglisten Fri 30-Jan-09 11:53:30

What on earth is the 'Playground test?'

crumpet Fri 30-Jan-09 11:53:50

Don't like it. Sounds made up.

GrapefruitMoon Fri 30-Jan-09 11:56:00

Is it an alternative version of Tea (as in Tea Leoni)? I like the way it sounds but not sure about the spelling - but then Tea is open to teasing...

listenglisten Fri 30-Jan-09 12:00:31

I think the girl I know spells her name TIEA

listenglisten Fri 30-Jan-09 12:01:04

Sorry that's supposed to be TEIA

CountessDracula Fri 30-Jan-09 12:08:22

the playground test is how a name sounds when screeched across the playground.

MrsBadger Fri 30-Jan-09 12:12:12

anything sounds bad screeched across a playground IMO...
[resolves to screech less]

hippipotamiHasLostTwoPounds Fri 30-Jan-09 12:15:38

Um, not sure about it. It sounds made up and I would instantly (and unfairly) judge you as one of those mums desperate to be different.

Now Thea I love.

listenglisten Fri 30-Jan-09 12:19:04

Oh, I've never thought of it in terms of the playground, possibly the park or supermarket.

PuppyMonkey Fri 30-Jan-09 12:23:15

Sounds like a silly made up name but also sounds, dare I say it, a bit common too. Is that possible?

georgiemum Fri 30-Jan-09 12:31:27

I misread it as Tazer (but I only had about 3 hours sleep last night). Is it short for something?

BlueChampagne Fri 30-Jan-09 13:06:33

Knew a Teah back in the 70s. Pronounced Tay-er, which is how I'd pronounce Taya. It's short and simple. If you love it, go for it.

Bettymum Fri 30-Jan-09 16:20:53

Sounds a bit chavvy, sorry! blush Maya is lovely though.

RachieB Fri 30-Jan-09 16:22:31

I dont like Teya / Taya ( i dont like Freya either ?! lol)

Maya / Maia is nicer, as its a softer sound than the hard T

i love Thea (as in Thee - ah but this can also be pronounced like Tay - ah too!)

what about Talia ? Tiana ?

NoBiggy Fri 30-Jan-09 16:23:12

I know a Teah (pronounces tay-ah). Known her for a couple of years, only last week found out the spelling.

I think her family's Irish - is it an Irish name at all?

dooit Fri 30-Jan-09 16:55:12

Looks like it would be pronounced Tyre or Tie A as in, tie a knot in it. Don't like it at all.

I like it, know 2, both of foreign origin, Spanish and dutch. One spells it Teija.
