This is my first post, after months of lurking, so please be gentle!

Honest opinions on these names please:

pgwithnumber3 Sun 18-Jan-09 20:08:29

Sorry but don't like any of them.

CrushWithEyeliner Sun 18-Jan-09 20:08:50

Really sorry but I don't like any of them. The first sounds a bit like a brand for Italian Pasta.
Do you have any others?

Spidermama Sun 18-Jan-09 20:09:52

I like Anneli and Greta ... but Jill is too seventies.

mumoftoby Sun 18-Jan-09 20:11:17

I like Greta. (Sigh) I had boys both times and a little sad to have not used my girl names!

Hulababy Sun 18-Jan-09 20:11:21

orry, not really keen on any. If had to choose one from your 3, I think Greta is the better one.

moondog Sun 18-Jan-09 20:11:25

Nice all of them and not used now so they will not be run of the mill.
Jill is really cool actually!

helsy Sun 18-Jan-09 20:11:34

Greta sounds nice. Anneli sounds unfinished and Jill is a 1970s hairdresser. Is that too harsh?

janeite Sun 18-Jan-09 20:11:57

I quite like Greta; don't like the other too although Jill could be quite sweetly retro for a middle name.

wotulookinat Sun 18-Jan-09 20:12:21

I'm not overly keen on any, I'm afraid.

Jackstini Sun 18-Jan-09 20:12:24

Depends on surname but out of the 3 prefer Anneli.
Greta always reminds me of Sound of Music - sorry
Gill I prefer with a G, short for Gillian to give another option?

MrsMattie Sun 18-Jan-09 20:13:31

like Greta - the other two are awful

Tillyscoutsmum Sun 18-Jan-09 20:14:18

I think Greta is really sweet. I like Gretchen as well.

Not so keen on your other two though - sorry sad

Katecat Sun 18-Jan-09 20:14:38

No worries, I did ask for honest opinions. Have loads of others but don't want all by favourites slated in one go! Will add more later.

sad about Anneli, I really love it. It's actually a proper name but I can kind of see what you mean. Would probably only ever use Jill as a middle name but I like it alot for some reason.

Thanks. grin

helsy Sun 18-Jan-09 20:18:16

What about Annelise?

MmeLindt Sun 18-Jan-09 20:20:45

Greta is lovely.

Not sure about Anneli, it sounds a bit made up.

Jill is ok.

I have to contradict Tillyscoutmum, I am afraid. Gretchen is terrible, a very twee name in Germany. It means little Greta.

NorktasticNinja Sun 18-Jan-09 20:20:53

Something about Anneli spelt like that is very offputting, I do like Annelie though. My first thought at Greta wasn't positive but actually it's growing fast...

Jill is really not my cup of tea.

LaDiDaDi Sun 18-Jan-09 20:22:57

I like Greta, not keen on the others tbh.

They are all very different from each other iyswim. It makes it hard to work out your taste and make other suggestions.

wheesht Sun 18-Jan-09 20:23:04

How do you pronouce Anneli? Prefer it to the other two. Really don't like Greta am afraid.

Cies Sun 18-Jan-09 20:23:56

I like Greta a lot.

Jill is a bit boring maybe? A bit too seventies?

Anneli I sort of like, but prefer Annalisa or Louisa or something similar.

Jackstini Sun 18-Jan-09 20:24:37

What about Amelie as another option?

teafortwo Sun 18-Jan-09 20:25:41

Greta is very very lovely - cute for a girl and oh so sexy for a lady!!!

Jill is a simple and very friendly sounding name. I have a friend who is very kind and good - you know the type - natural, cool, no fuss, all love! That is the type of person who comes to mind with the name Jill. My friend's name isn't Jill but she'd make a good Jill.

Anneli - Sorry - I am still at the "Oooh that is unusual!" stage - I suppose I would have to think about it before I tell you what it makes me think of! grin

Do you have a leaning towards a favourite katecat???

Also please tell us more about the name Anneli...

Plus thanks for posting - welcome to the mn gang - x x x grin

Katecat Sun 18-Jan-09 20:25:51

Blimey - I hadn't realised how quickly things moved on here.

Not keen on Gretchen, Gill or Gillian personally but thanks.

Annelise is one I'd never considered but actually I quite like it.

The Sound of Music is the exact reason for my love of Greta!

Looks like Greta is way out ahead so far then.

How about Eleri?
Or Kirsty (a bit 80's maybe)?

Thanks for all your comments so far.

NorktasticNinja Sun 18-Jan-09 20:26:43

Pronunciation of Anneli here. It's infinitely preferable to Amelie IMHO...

noonki Sun 18-Jan-09 20:28:49

I love Anneli it has a beautiful sound to it.
