Names that could have Dolly as a short form

I love the name Dolly, but feel it's too cute to be a full name - there would need to be an official/grown-up name. However, I'm not keen on Dolores or Dorothy. Are there any other names for which could reasonably have Dolly as a short form?

All the long names are horrid. Just go with Dolly if you like it!

yep, Dolly is fine on it's own really

I'm not sure if Dolly is sensible enough if she wants to be a lawyer or something though.

Dora is nice - maybe a name with a Dora beginning/ending.

Dolly is the worst name I've heard since Bracken.

Too insubstantial, childlike, whimsical, cutesy. Don't do this. You're having a person not a tiny tears.

Polly is better, Holly, even Molly, Milly, Tilly, Sally etc.

Daniela with Dolly for short as a private family nn is bearable.

Don't like the meaning of Dolores. A really girm name meaning.

Something else ending in dora, e.g. Theodora, Isadora?

Totally agree Liffey!
Dolly is a cutesey nickname, not a proper name. She could be very embarrassed as a teenager/adult to feel that this is her only name.
There seems to be a real glut of Tilly/Milly/Ellie/Molly etc at the moment, but I think Dolly is even worse!

If meanings of names are important to you (and they are to many people) then yes, steer clear of Dolores too.

Ooh what does Dolores actually mean then...?

And how do you lot know she won't grow up and want to be a Country and Western singer...

Liffey - I know it's cutesy and insubstantial! That's why I want a more sensible and adult name.

Delilah or Delia might work though.

Theodora is also a possibility, also thinking along those lines - Isadora, Pandora, Eudora.

Can anyone think of a name starting with Dora or Dol other than Dorothy/Dolores?

Actually it makes me think of Dolly the sheep.

Dolores means 'sorrowful' which isn't a great meaning to have bestowed on you.

How about Doriane? Doralia?

Dorian is a boys name. Is Doriane just a made up female version?

Doralia sounds like a transport network

I've just come across Medora, which is growing on my. It's the name of a character from Byron's "The Corsair".
