Baby names

Beyond Sequoia and Halcyon - the latest in an occasional public information series. Names that probably nobody else in the school will have, but won't make people say "I beg your pardon? I dodn't quite catch that"

I like Sequoia as I love the tree of the same name and Sequoia national park is a wondeful place!!
I do like trees in general so douglas is good, nordman, ash(ley), linden, cecil(sessile), camellia, cherry (but not cherie), holly, elm(er), magnolia and mimosa. if you went into latin botanical names, the list is endles!!

Yosemite National Park is fabulous too - and so is the Peak District - but I don't think either are good names for human beings!

I find it so amazing that Paul, Mark and Susan are on your lists. How times change.

I know. But do you know a Paul, Mark or Susan under 30 (ish?)

I know of the names of 2000ish 0-18 year olds through schools. clubs, etc, and none of the names I mention appear among them!

My dad and my brother are both called Kenneth.

My DS's name is on your list. But that's why we chose it - simple to spell, and unusual, just because it wasn't 'in fashion'.

He's called Richenda.

No, I'm kidding - he isn't really.

I know an Alan.
He is the son of an MNer, and he is about 1ish.
I rec'd Belinda and Felicity on threads a few times.

If I have a girl next time she will eb Susannah, but not Susan.

DS wishes he was called Rupert.

Iris is actually making a comeback.

I know a Mark and a Susannah, but you are right, I have never ever encountered a baby "Paul" or "Susan". Not sure how ready the world is yet for more "Nigels" or "Kevins" - some name should take longer to come back than others.

I think Sarah Palin's next child could well be called Peak.

There are 2 Pauls and a Mark at ds's school.

And he is a Jonathan, and last year there was another one (who has just left)

Don't think Felicity is that unusual these days - I know a couple.

Know also babies called Rupert and Sean.

I think most people would raise an eyebrow at Richenda, tbh.

I have an Alan and a Donald - not common in their age group but not weird.
