For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

My 'can't use' name is Blair- love the name, it would go great with our surname but there's no way I could use it given the political associations unfortunately.

I love the name Elle-louise, but obviously couldnt use that for a little boy!! And a little too similar to mine, someone would say ell and we would both have been looking around!

LiviaAugusta (love your name btw) - I'm put off Cameron for similar reasons sad

Ruby and Scarlett. Always loved them, but seeming to get increasingly popular - not that there's anything wrong with that per se, it would just get confusing imo. Anyway, I've used Scarlett for a pet now grin

I'd love Xander if we had another DS but if we have a little girl at some point we'd like Willow and can't use both!

ladymia Thu 24-Jan-13 23:23:40

Dexter ... love it but far too popular

I have always loved Jolyon as a name because I love the Forsyte saga books and the character of Old Jolyon is actually based on an ancestor of mine.

But DH refused to even consider on grounds that he thought it was too pretentious, and that our DS would get beaten up for having a name like that. Given that my DC know little boys called Josca, Ptolemy, Moses and Jose and haven't once batted an eyelid at any of these names, I can't help but disagree with dh, but as it turned out we had girls, so the argument was gloriously irrelevant anyway.

Ariadne. Has anyone said that yet?

My husband and I both love it (we're a pair of sad Poirot enthusiasts).

It goes with our surname too.

But we just couldn't, could we?

andadietcoke Sat 26-Jan-13 11:41:17

Harrysmummysarah1 Sat 26-Jan-13 17:25:22

All vetoed by DH and my family as being too poncey.

Thought I could name our new puppy Rafferty, but no vetoed again and he is being named Barney smile

Sashapineapple Sat 26-Jan-13 18:11:00

Tallulah, I love it and was very nearly DD's middle name but DH was having none of it.

poorbuthappy Sat 26-Jan-13 18:24:23

Cordelia. Yes I am a Puffy fan, but I am also Welsh and apparently it is Welsh.
DH hates it.

Wishfulmakeupping Sun 27-Jan-13 10:32:01

Henry but OH hates the name
Arthur for same reason sad

He loves scarlett I vetoed as too popular

ThroughTheRoundWindow Sun 27-Jan-13 20:33:30

PhoebeC - Ariadne is a fabulous name. If you love it, do it!

(You could give her an "ordinary" middle name so if she hates it later she has a choice??)

muppetthecow Wed 30-Jan-13 14:32:14

Aelfric and Oswin - I love all the old Saxon names. I blame a childhood reading Cadfael novels! wink
