Florence??

Shit its me again....

Still undecided...getting to the tearful tearing my hair out stage....

DP not liking Florence but i really do.

Not enjoying peoples negative faces and comments when i say we are thinking we'll probably call her Olive, which i really like myself and DP set on. Just can't help that others putting me off.

Any thoughts on Florence v's Olive??

Flo, Flory, Flossie... the shortened versions just aren't very nice. And there's always the Magic Roundabout. Sorry (I love the city though).

Olivia? I love Olivia O'Leary. Wasn't Olive a character on On The Buses (not a compliment).

I know a baby Florence - lovely name, I think. She's Flo for short.

One of the coolest girls in my year at school was known as Flo, so I see it as quite a glamorous name. I think she was actually a Jo though!

If I had another dd I'd go for Florence. Well, possibly. Love it.

Don't like Olive at all, sorry.

Love Florence but Olive will always be "On the buses" or "Popeye" to me - sorry

Wouldn't consider Olivia, don't think they are similar at all.

On the Buses before my time and also before my babies and her peers time so does that matter.

Olive is coming back and is popular in some circles, makes me think of classy old ladies out in the garden tending their roses..

Florence i wouldn't want shortened and if she liked it shortened when she older then fine.

My name usually shortened but i didn't allow it. Even as a primary school child.

call your DD Olive if you and your DH like it

FWIW, my DS's name is variously described as common, chavtastic etc BUT we like it

Olive is a very cool name - go for it

Olive is nice and at the end of the day she is your baby and sod what everyone else thinks. They are not going to pass negative comments once it is your dds name (Or they shouldnt). I think it is very unusual and lovely. Go for it.

Florence - much prettier than Olive - Olive just says on the buses to me

really don't mean this rudely - although it could possibly come across that way - but maybe you should rethink the names you liked when pregnant - otherwise I fear you are in danger of just plucking a name out of nowehere just to give her a name - maybe you should stick with something you liked before as it does sound like you are getting desperate to find her a name

Florence is gorgeous. I'd use it.

I wouldn't use Olive myself, but if you both love it I'd say go for it, poele may initally react badly but they'll soon get used to it she'll have a cool, unusual but not made up name.

and when poele say 'make me think of...'I think that's pretty irrelvant after a very short time what it makes everyone thik of is the adorable child they know called that.

and 'on the buses' also before my time and I'm 38, so i don't think there'll be any teasing about that at school!

I prefer Olive. Florence will be shortened and all the nns are not very nice.

I know a Florence who is 12 and it's never shortened, bt you run the risk it may be I guess.

names we liked when preg just don't suit her. We did consider Olive when preg but didn't make the shortlist. Had sort of settled on Nora but doesn't look like a Nora.

Someone reminded me yesterday that Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen have a baby called Olive, think it was meant to put me off but it doesn't at all, he's hilariousand she is gorgeous.

I met a gorgeous girl in Buenos Aires named Florencia. Green eyes, golden-brown hair, very dashing as she showed me around the Teatro Colon. You could consider Florencia as a variation, perhaps.

Minkersmum, Florence and Olive (and Connie) were the names I wanted to call my babies, but they both turned out to be boys, I love the names, I think they are a bit different and really lovely. Please just go with what you like!! Everyone raised an eyebrow at my boys name as we called him an african name (and we aren't african)and we had some negative comments, but he suits his name brilliantly and I'm glad I stuck to it now! Also, sil has an Olive in her class (shes a lower school teacher) and often comments at how they all think her name is so sweet!
