Well my middle name is Margaret, but I don't like Maggie much tbh - if it was my first name I would prefer the nickname Greta...

but that is just me grin

(not my first name anyway!)

margaret is mine and dd's middle name

katiepotatie Sat 20-Sep-08 09:54:14

I love it

Simpsons, thatcher, maggie and the ferocious beast ...

not to my taste as a name either really.

But as I always say if you like it then you choose it

brimfull Sat 20-Sep-08 09:54:59

prefer margaret to maggie if I'm honest

WinkyWinkola Sat 20-Sep-08 09:59:56

I really like Maggie. It's v. sweet. Not Margaret though. I think that's a bit stuffy.

mum2jakeyroo Sat 20-Sep-08 10:09:56

Margaret/Maggie has been on my list of girls names for 4 years now but only had boys. I love it.

TwoMore Sat 20-Sep-08 10:10:48

love Margo, and think Margaret and Maggie are classics and nice.

Peachy Sat 20-Sep-08 10:16:10

I'd really like it were it not for Thatcher

That ruins it for me sadly, but you have to go for what you want, not some person you never met!

Reginaphilangy Sat 20-Sep-08 10:17:55

Aww i think its really sweet!

Not sure that i would use it myself though ...

LynetteScavo Sat 20-Sep-08 10:20:39

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Out, Out, Out!

Sorry, another child of the '80s.

Anglepoise Sat 20-Sep-08 10:55:54

I really like it (particularly after reading Mill on the Floss) but the Thatcher thing puts me off, plus DH is five years older than me so it's an even stronger association for him. Pah.

frazzledoldbag34 Sat 20-Sep-08 12:43:10

Thatcher also puts me off it.
Not bad though. What about Margot instead?

PuppyMonkey Sat 20-Sep-08 12:44:57

Nah, Thatcher...

You want a Maddie instead...

nickeldime Sat 20-Sep-08 13:21:22

Quite a nice name, and it's trending up in popularity in recent years: www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Maggie

TheConfusedOne Sat 20-Sep-08 13:36:23

Will become popular with the actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, being in the Dark Knight, mark my words.

chandellina Sat 20-Sep-08 18:12:55

nice name but there is the maggot factor.

Margot is a nightmare name, i can confidently say. no one can pronounce it or spell it.

mazzystar Sat 20-Sep-08 18:13:59

is fab
reclaim it from thatch

dinkymum Sat 20-Sep-08 22:55:15

i like it, wanted my niece to be called this, because she looked like a maggie but they went with Ayesha instead. tut, these parentas that think they have the right to name their offspring eh!?
