I like both (sorry, that's not very helpful is it?)

I'd go for the one you like tbh.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

alexander but shortened to alex or sandy-xander sounds pretentious.

MrsMattie Sun 14-Sep-08 12:32:05

I love Theo and I like Alex / Alexander, but I have to be honest - Xander is poncy. Like people called Christopher who shorten it to Topher. Nah.

NomDePlume Sun 14-Sep-08 12:32:48

I like both long versions, but much, much much prefer the shortening Theo to Xander

muggglewump Sun 14-Sep-08 12:34:14

I like Theo and Xander, not hugely keen on the long versions of either but then I'm not keen on giving kids short versions of names on their BC's so really I'm no help at allgrin

PavlovtheCat Sun 14-Sep-08 12:35:17

Xander from Buffy - don't like it.

Theo is nice.

serenity Sun 14-Sep-08 12:36:25

Xander's not poncy, it might be slightly geeky and Buffylike, but not poncy

I heart Xander grin (I quite heart Topher too, but then I'm a fan of That 70's Show and Topher-as-Venom too!)

MaryAnnSingleton Sun 14-Sep-08 12:36:55

don't like Xander, it's a bit wanky but love, love, love Theo as it is ds' name.Alexander in full is good though.

DaisySteiner Sun 14-Sep-08 12:37:38

Alexander (don't want Theodore becoming too common!)

MrsMattie Sun 14-Sep-08 12:39:34

To my ear, Xnader is uber poncy. It's trying too hard to be different.

MrsMattie Sun 14-Sep-08 12:39:43

Xander, even

i like both but alexsander could it not shortend to alex and not xander ! mind you i do like theo to

debzmb62 Sun 14-Sep-08 12:56:27

sorry alexander

Megglevache Sun 14-Sep-08 12:58:07

Theo Walcott is set to become a huge star.

His name will top the most popular boys names in the next few years and will be as common as Jack/Daniel and Josh. I guarantee it or I will eat my hat. grin

MaryAnnSingleton Sun 14-Sep-08 14:15:01

am sure you are right there Megglevache - I want it known that I picked ds' name 11 years ago, long before it got so popular !

mybumpsaboy Sun 14-Sep-08 18:02:23

lol yeah that's a v good point about theo walcott!!

I'd be shortening alexander to xander as two of my best friends are called Alexandra, both known as 'Alex' so to me it feels like a girls' name

Megglevache Sun 14-Sep-08 18:54:09

Good because my hat is rather chewy.

Mind you, I don't know too many baby Waynes, Dwights or Franks

But those names aren't as nice as the ones mentioned. There's a reason those names and popular...they're really nice. smile

Megglevache Sun 14-Sep-08 18:55:48

MaryAnn, your Theo is gorgeous. He is going to be such a fox. I hope you have braced yourself for it. smile

ScummyMummy Sun 14-Sep-08 18:56:20

Theodore- not for me but Theo's ok

Alexander- good name but Xander utterly awful imo

MaryAnnSingleton Sun 14-Sep-08 19:25:51

aw thanks Megglevache grin !

bythepowerofgreyskull Sun 14-Sep-08 19:28:46

biased - I have an Alexander - shortened to Xander rather than Alex - definately not a poncy family
