What do we think? I don't like any of the longer names for Nellie so it would have to be just Nellie. I'm not keen on Ellie either.

don't like it, sorry

Sidge Mon 08-Sep-08 13:36:16

The Elephant.

Sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind.

midnightexpress Mon 08-Sep-08 13:36:22

Elephant

midnightexpress Mon 08-Sep-08 13:36:57

Though I love Nell (which is short for Eleanor I think)

PonderingThoughts Mon 08-Sep-08 13:38:05

Agree with Midnight Express (both posts)

snooks Mon 08-Sep-08 13:38:17

Well, I like it but unfortunately you would (or she would) have all those "off she went with a trumpety-trump, trump, trump, trump" connotations (sp)

Fimbo Mon 08-Sep-08 13:38:18

It was my gran's name. Horrible name <<sorry>>

MrsMattie Mon 08-Sep-08 13:38:31

I like Nell.I know two - one is an Ellen and one is a Penelope.

snooks Mon 08-Sep-08 13:38:43

yes Nell is lovely I agree.

LilRedWG Mon 08-Sep-08 13:41:13

DD is Eleanor and my sister calls her Nellie. It's okay, but I prefer Nell.

Botbot Mon 08-Sep-08 13:52:30

I'd spell it Nelly myself. It's the French way.

VictorianSqualor Mon 08-Sep-08 13:55:32

My friend's daughter is called Aneila, nn Nell.
I love it.
However, Nelly made me think of the Elephant.

DaphneMoon Mon 08-Sep-08 14:06:56

Nelly is short for Helen.

branflake81 Mon 08-Sep-08 15:13:02

It's quite common in France and short for Nelida.

thumbsucker Mon 08-Sep-08 15:18:57

Yes, but Jesus is common in Spain...

Sputnik Mon 08-Sep-08 15:20:37

Nell is lovely. Nellie not so keen on.

Tigerschick Mon 08-Sep-08 15:26:28

Another vote for Nell rather than Nellie.

halogen Mon 08-Sep-08 16:57:52

Nell is lovely and Nellie is sweet for a little girl. I'd go for Eleanor or similar and use Nellie/Nell for a shortening, personally.

AuntieMaggie Mon 08-Sep-08 17:12:32

I like it. A friend's little girl is called nellie - think it's really sweet.

Not keen on Nellie.

MerryMarigold Mon 08-Sep-08 17:41:07

No, a kitchen servant.

Also an elephant. My name is Eleanor and I was still nicknamed Nellie the Elephant despite not even being fat!

3andnomore Mon 08-Sep-08 21:00:39
