Not due for a long while but at present my fav. is Barnaby and my partner's is Magnus.
Magnus is not a name I would usually go for as I tend to lean towards softer sounding names, but for him to suggest anything is a miracle. Which name do Mumsnetters prefer?

emkana Thu 04-Sep-08 23:26:10

Magnus, sorry

schneebly Thu 04-Sep-08 23:27:49

I prefer Magnus too grin

schneebly Thu 04-Sep-08 23:28:14

Barnaby just makes me think of that bear with the annoying voice!

harpomarx Thu 04-Sep-08 23:30:40

I have never done this before...

but no to both.

Magnus is, as you say, 'hard' and irretrievably linked to Magnus Magnusson in the poor marx brain. Barnaby is just too cute for me.

Please say this is for a pug puppy and not a child

harpomarx Thu 04-Sep-08 23:36:11

what's with all the pro-Magnus comments? Am I compleeeetely out of touch with current name sentiment?

combustiblelemon Thu 04-Sep-08 23:36:58

Barnaby.

emkana Thu 04-Sep-08 23:37:55

I only voted for Magnus because Barnaby is completely out of the question.

Megglevache Thu 04-Sep-08 23:38:34

Magnus. A brill name grin

Barnaby or Barney definitely, unless you are norwegian.

Magnus - it is a very strong name.
Another variant is Magnar.

I love Magnus. But I have been banned from using it for any future dses, because of the Sportacus connection.

Ronaldinhio Fri 05-Sep-08 08:49:08

Magnus is great

I much prefer Barnaby, but would prob refer to him as Barney most of the time.

Also think of Magus Magnusson (what were his parents thinking, with a surname like that???) when I hear Magnus. Also makes me think of Magners Cider hmm.

Must be honest, I would not choose either but do like Barnaby.

Magnus

I know a GORGEOUS Magnus

NotQuiteCockney Fri 05-Sep-08 09:45:38

Magnus Magnusson's father was called Magnus - that's why his surname (patronymic really) is Magnusson. Actually 'Magnus Magnusson' is a pretty common name in Iceland.

The Sportacus thing is unfortunate. I don't mind either name, tbh.

I don't like either sorry
