okay i'm gonna risk it and open up the name debate...

Boys name sorted: Henry William (grandads names)

Girls name was either Sophie or Lily (popular but i dont care..) with either Ella, Ava or Mae as middle name.. popular again.... i know, i know.

we really liked Sophie and our surname begins with S so the alliteration actually sounds nice but when combined with any of the above middle names it gives dubious initials.

Dh has now emailed with:
Sophie Nicole
Sophie Willow
Sophie Scarlett (think he likes alliteration)
Sophie Lydia (lydia was my preferred 1st name

i think i can assume lily is out then...but come on Mners offer some opinion and alternatives as my mind is scrambled. You know it'll be a girl with so much indecision!!!!

I have a Henry so love that.

I like Sophie Nicole best.

AnotherFineMess Wed 03-Sep-08 14:16:54

What's wrong with the initials SES? [being thick emoticon]

belgo Wed 03-Sep-08 14:18:01

Sophie Nicole
Sophie Willow
Sophie Scarlett

are all nice.

I'm personally not keen on Lydia.

Fimbo Wed 03-Sep-08 14:19:34

How about Sophie Lily

Lily Sophie

Tbh don't think any of your dh's choices of middle name really flow with Sophie

Geepers Wed 03-Sep-08 14:20:46

I have never liked the named Sophie. It looks and sounds too much like Soapy.

tori32 Wed 03-Sep-08 14:21:22

Mine are
Eliza Mae
Lucy Anna
I just think they have to run nicely into your last name. I like Evie, Rebekah, Anya. What about grandmothers names?

Tinkerisdead Wed 03-Sep-08 14:22:18

This is all come from an email from my DH, he must be having a slow day at work, hence why i thought i'd share it on here. i think he thinks SES sounds very similar to the childlike way children spell put S E X

glad i opened this up actually as interesting to hear opinion when i havent had a chance to think it over.

Fimbo, what names would you put with Sophie?

clumsymum Wed 03-Sep-08 14:24:00

Sophie Mae sounds quite nice.

And is there a problem witgh the initials SMS? cos they are my dh's initials.

Ashantai Wed 03-Sep-08 14:24:02

I like Sophie Mae smile

clumsymum Wed 03-Sep-08 14:24:02

Sophie Mae sounds quite nice.

And is there a problem witgh the initials SMS? cos they are my dh's initials.

Tinkerisdead Wed 03-Sep-08 14:24:14

grandmothers have names irene and madge! im not loving grandmas names!!! lucy was also a third choice name after Sophie and lily.

Liking Evie actually...

LOl at Soapy.

Tinkerisdead Wed 03-Sep-08 14:25:16

sophie mae was my prefered choice but DH is concerned as an SMS is a text message....

Ashantai Wed 03-Sep-08 14:28:39

Yeah but does that really matter? Go with your choice, after all you'll be doing the hard work!! Thats the excuse i used to choose all our kids names

Oh actually thinks that he chose one of our kids names, but i had been subtly dropping hintswink

HonoriaGlossop Wed 03-Sep-08 14:29:26

I just think May/Mae are SO, SO common now they are almost the 'obligatory' middle name along with Grace or Rose.

I think Sophie is a lovely name; like all your possibles...but Sophie is prettiest I think. How about Sophie Eve? Sophie Helen? Sophie Elizabeth? Of your DH's suggestions I like Sophie Willow.

How come your preferred name of Lydia is out of the picture?

tori32 Wed 03-Sep-08 14:29:50

I agree with fimbo that DHs choices don't flow well with Sophie
Sophie mae
Sophie Mia
Sophie Belle
Sophie Anna
Sophie Beth
Sophie Megan?
Sophie Rose

Fimbo Wed 03-Sep-08 14:30:19

Sophie Louise

Sophie Jayne

Sophie Ellen

Sophie Jennifer

Sophie Alice

Sophie Erin

Sophie Elizabeth

I like Lucy a lot.

Lucy Mae

Lucy Fiona

Lucy Megan

Soapy Sue

Tinkerisdead Wed 03-Sep-08 14:39:05

LOl at soapy sue, im gonna just go with that.

wow im really glad i posted now, got loads more lovely ideas. Lydia was vetoed as DH wants an eeeee sounding name even though i liked Liddy as a shortening.

gonna print this off and present these new suggestions when he gets in from work.

midnightexpress Wed 03-Sep-08 14:39:38

I know a Sophia May (or Mae, not sure) and she's a real sweetie. Agree that it's a v common middle name though.

I prefer Lydia to Sophie as a first name though - why was it vetoed?

midnightexpress Wed 03-Sep-08 14:40:29

Sorry, x-posts.

Gosh he's ever so fussy, your DH isn't he? wink

seeker Wed 03-Sep-08 14:40:51

How about Nicola instead of Nicole? I've always liked Nicola!

AbbeyA Wed 03-Sep-08 14:42:12

I think Sophie May is nice-I don't like Mae.

HonoriaGlossop Wed 03-Sep-08 14:42:13

Harrumph to "DH wants a eee sounding name" Tell him when HE carries the child and gives birth that's when he gets the right to his wishes taking priority over yours! And you can print this bit out and stuff it to 'im!

Lydia is a lovely name, Lyddie a lovely shortening......

kitsmummy Wed 03-Sep-08 14:47:13

I think all your names (except Lydia) are nice and I can't see the problem with SES, SAS or SMS, I think DH might be looking at the initials a bit too hard really. However, I particularly like Willow as a middle name.
