There was a horrible girl at my school called Heather and I called her Heffa or Heffalump... I was a bit of a shit back then come to think of it.

She was a nasty piece of work so I'm influenced by that.

I think it's dated.

But if you like it, go for it. You should always pick what YOU like.

its quite classic. but not too fashionable now, so there wont be other Heather's in her class. but OTOH you wont have people asking " Really? how do you spell that?"

I really used to like this name but unfortunately, Heather Mad Mills has kind of ruined it for me.

I like it because it is classic and always that bit unusual.

i knew a heather at primary school she was really clever and popular and was known as clever Heather which surely isnt a bad thing is it?
My nephew begged my SIL to call his little brother Heather if he was a girl and we have no idea where he got it from! you'd expect a 4 year old to want Dora or Fi Fi right!? lol

I take it you don't watch EastEnders at the moment?

They all pronounce it Evvar

I wouldn't say it was a classic name, it is quite old fashioned now.
It was at its most trendy in the 1950s and dropped out of the top 100 about 20 years ago!

DD has a friend called Heather -she's 18. Her mum is called Hazel!
I like them both - like Lorna too.

i think it is lovely, it makes a change from other 'flower' names around. i was a school with a few ( child of the 70's), but it is a name that you rarely hear now.

I think it's a wonderful name, but like Geordieminx I'm biased as I am a Heather

Don't think it's old fashioned. I was the only one in my entire school, always a good thing cos you feel special. Never have to spell it as someone has mentioned. People do attempt to shorten it to Heth, which is actively discouraged by me. Only downside I can see with my name is people do tend to try and rhyme it "Hello heather hows the weather? are your shoes made of leather and you weigh as light as a feather?"

I have never ever wanted to change my name I like it that much

TBH When I was at school I wasnt that fussed on it - I wanted a normal name like most of my friends - Helen/Gemma/Claire/Nicola. As biscuit says its unique without being whack - at work or in my social circle, I'm Heather, no-one else is which probably sounds weird but its nice.

DD's friend is always known as 'Hev', rather than Heth, which she doesn't seem to mind.

Report
Buda · 01/09/2008 08:37

I like it. Have a friend called Heather who calls herself Hev for short. She has just called her DD Willow!

I adore Heather, Hazel, Holly and Willow. My dd1 has one of those names
