Now I love the name Ben, lovely soft manly name but wouldn't have Ben as official name SOOOO, would you go for Benedict (which means blessed, ahhh) or Benjamin?

I think Ben is definitely a name in it's own right now, and there is no need for a "official" name, imo....I could see a Dr. Ben so and so...or Ben so and so the Primeminister....
actually prefer Ben over Benjamin...Benedict is nicer than Benjamin, imo....but don't dislike Benjamin neither...am I making sense?

3andnomore, that is exactly how I feel about the name. Love Ben more than Benjamin but there is something about Benedict that I like...

Maybe it is the pregnancy hormones though that makes me think up these official names because when I was pregnant with DD1, we chose Grace then worried that it might get too popular (we were right - although we did have Grace for her name and love it) so said to DH one night "shall we have Gracia as her official name?" - he told me to feck off in a less polite way.

Benjamin, OTOH, reminds me of a fluffy bunny in a blue jacket.

But it is entirely your own choice of course.

Benedict - I wanted Benedict for DS2 but DH vetoed it as he didn't like Ben very much and was worried that Benedict was a bit poncey.

He was very wrong and has even said that he now regrets it a tiny bit and wishes he had been braver.

Not sure I like Benjamin - probably the Benji thing.
