Dp pointed out that he likes that name but hes still looking...

Lucian....does anyone knows a Lucian?

snice Tue 26-Aug-08 19:31:04

Makes me think of the character in ER

Lauriefairycake Tue 26-Aug-08 19:31:09

I like it, I think Freud (obviously) and the tasty curly-haired surgeon in ER smile

Lauriefairycake Tue 26-Aug-08 19:31:45

ooooh, x-posted with another ER fan! grin

really!!

As Dp found the name in the baby names book. It does match the surname but it sounds soo posh

Olihan Tue 26-Aug-08 19:37:08

Franny's just had a Lucian.

biglips Tue 26-Aug-08 19:38:06

what would it be shorten to?

combustiblelemon Tue 26-Aug-08 19:40:50

I really like it. It's the name of the bookish one in 'The Cramp Twins' cartoon.

Friend has a son called Lucian. Cool name.

collision Tue 26-Aug-08 23:40:12

I prefer luca or lucas tbh.

lastboxoftampons Wed 27-Aug-08 10:04:09

I'm not a huge fan, but it was my grandfather's name. He was always called Lou, which probably doesn't work as well in the UK...hmm

QuintessentialShadow Wed 27-Aug-08 10:05:13

My youngest has Lucien as middle name. smile

loobylu3 Wed 27-Aug-08 10:13:59

I really like it too!

LadyThompson Wed 27-Aug-08 11:34:14

It's nice. I think Lucien has the edge over Lucian. It's the French version (Napoleon's brother, fact fans).

There's the sculptor Lucian Freud, but against that you have the lugubrious, rabbit obsessed son in The Liver Birds. But I expect no one will remember that. Otherwise I think Lucian was an Ancient Greek writer?

morningpaper Wed 27-Aug-08 11:36:51

I know a Lucien

He is very very lovely

I think it's a great name

MamaG Wed 27-Aug-08 11:37:55

I like it.

(Hatrick - how are you and baby doing? )

QuintessentialShadow Wed 27-Aug-08 12:32:04

You have Lucan the roman poet who was a nephew of Seneca, and you have Lucian the Syrian-Greek satirist and rhetoric, also known for being the first science fiction writer, with his accounts of extra terrestrial life. wink
There are also quite a few roman poets by name Lucius. smile

FabioTheFlouncingCat Wed 27-Aug-08 12:35:11

I really like it.

It can be Lu-see-en/an
or
Looshan
or
combo of both.

LadyThompson Wed 27-Aug-08 12:49:02

Ha ha. Thanks Quinty.

MrsMattie Wed 27-Aug-08 13:02:15

Hate it. Makes me think of Lucifer!

Plus it's in the Crispin, Quentin 'posh, drippy bloke' category of names for me

QuintessentialShadow Wed 27-Aug-08 13:09:51

well mrsmattie, you have to bear in mind that Lucifer was the angel of LIGHT, before the fall. In a way you can compare him to DarthVader. He wasnt always bad.... wink
