I wanted something different and not too common that sounded like Leo but not Leo as it sounds too much like a cats name, so was just wondering what people thought? He is due in 3 weeksish, DP and I mostly agree on the names we like, luckily, but are completely stuck as to which one we will choose! Your thoughts please...

But it's ok.

like them both,
no x factor connotations for me, perhaps cos i didnt watch it grin

Mmmm. I suppose Leo would be okay. Leo makes me think of a boy with blond curly hair and big blue eyes, which, considering both me and DP both have blond hair and blue eyes, and Dp's hair is also curly, then he probably would look like a Leo to me!

Leon also brilliant film about, er, an assassin. But a very sweet one though - he looks after an orphan and drinks milk.

oh, thats why i've heard of it - french man?

but dont let that put you off grin

ChairmanMiao Sun 24-Aug-08 12:26:35 quite so sweet that bit. Also undercurrent of sexual attraction.

But brilliant film.

I love it (much nicer than Leo IMO), but you might be accused of jumping on the Brangelina bandwagon.

I know a Leo with blond hair and bright blue eyes smile so I like the name alot. I liked it anyway...I think it sounds posher than Leon, but I do like Leon as well.

Its a smart name, the only one I know is far from shaved head/trainer, in fact is rather posh and academicie

SlartyBartFast Sun 24-Aug-08 13:47:57

isnt tony blair's youngest leo?

Janni Sun 24-Aug-08 13:49:22

It's OK but I just see Noel backwards.

I prefer Leo or Louis.

OneBoyOneGirl Sun 24-Aug-08 13:54:24

I love leon - automatically think of the assassin film too, but would not put me off.

My first boyfriend was a leon

Takver Sun 24-Aug-08 14:12:48

I like the name - makes me think of ace writer Leon Garfield whose stories I loved as a child.
Apparantly in France it is less cool - a friend was going to call her baby Leon and another mutual friend's French husband was appalled, saying that only drunken dockers from Marseilles are called Leon!

DS2's BF is called Leon - all the ones I know (3 in total iirc) are Cypriot or Greek (short for Leonidas) I think it's a lovely name.

3andnomore Sun 24-Aug-08 14:39:00

es was almost called Leon (and we also saw that movie, lol)....but a few weeks before he was due someone else had a Babyboy and they called him changed our mind....

it's a nice name, and whilst not complately off your face unusual it isn't to commonly used....saying that, we have a Leon in the house right now (es friend is around)

Thanks for all your replies guys, had to laugh about the 'drunken dockers' Takver! I've shown your responses to DP and he says they are food for thought. Really like Leon atm so look out for it in the 'birth announcements'!

I love Leon myself - but have to say that in my younger day on the lefty circuit, lots of parents used it for their ds, as it's the first name of Trotsky. Better than Stalin though I suppose hmm
