hi all, im nearly 36 weeks.we know we are having a little boy but have absolutely no ideas for names! we had lots of lovely girls names but havent come across any boys names we really like sad. we would like william as a middle name and have warmed a little to oscar / harrison (harri) for short????? any ideas...?

Oscar is lovely; don't like Harrison or Harri at all. William is v sweet as a middle name and Oscar William goes well together. My favourite boys' names (fwiw) are Rowan, Luke and Gabriel.

Here's a starter for you. Who is your favourite actor/singer/writer?

Mine are James (Stewart)/Damien (Rice)/John (Irving). (Obviously not Damien as he was the Omen child).

well my favourite name was george but that is my father in law's name so my dad would never forgive me!!! william is my husbands name and love it sooo much im actually quite mad he has it!! but at least thats the middle name sorted.i also liked max but i dont really want a name that is a shortened version of something and dont like maximus etc.would also like to stay away from the normal thomas/peter/mark/anthony etc etc.maybe im just being too fussy!!!

ooh, like harvey and joseph.love oliver but its mums dog and we have a dog called molly so there would be way too much shouting molly/olly etc grin

catchingzeds Wed 20-Aug-08 21:00:55

I love Joseph too smile

There is always something to scupper a name choice- pet, family member etc. In my case it was the fact that I have worked with hundreds of children and associate many names with poor behaviour grin

yep i think i got milo on the brain from watching heroes!!! it always comes up on the credits!!! but agreed not good with william.

everlong Wed 20-Aug-08 22:12:44

We don't really shorten it as such, sometimes I will call him Osc. and we have a daft nickname which is Oscar Pops ( don't ask me why ) but he doesn't get Ozzy that's for sure!

When we picked it 9 years ago, people were aghast at the name ( we quite like that )but now people don't bat an eyelid.

I do like Joseph though ( but dh said it was too normal for his liking ) awkard sod that he is!

Edward William
Robert William
Henry William
George William
Arthur William

we have a William, its a good first name too

cathbath76 Thu 21-Aug-08 09:33:58

We have an Oscar William too.

I think Oscar's becoming quite popular now... but I love it. It's a strong name with a lot of history behind it.

I love William as a first name too. Also Robert, Edward and Louis.

Oscar William is great smile

Really not keen on Harri William. People will assume you named your ds after the royal family!
