What are your thoughts on madeline? I really love the name but I am worried that it is just too strongly associated with madeline mccann?

Oh no, I don't think you should let that put you off. If it was the name of a notorious murderer, then maybe.

Spelled like that, I associate it with the children's book (which both my dds love) by Ludwig Behrmann.

I feel the same as you. Lovely name but dh and i are worried about its associations now. most people will think mccann when you announce your dd's name but i suspect that will pass.

Sadly I would expect the association to wear off with the passage of time - people haven't stopped calling their children Ben or Jamie have they? It is a lovely name.

I am the same as Wessexgirl - would make me think of the book - a plucky little character.

Madeline McCann fervour will not last for ever.

"Goodnight little girls
Thank the Lord you are well
Now go to sleep"
said Miss Clavell

I say this to DC every night!

Which pronunciation are you going for?

I read Madeline as Mad-er-line
whereas i would pronounce Madeleine as Mad-er-lyn, iyswim?

"That's all there is
There isn't any more" is a big catchphrase in Wessex, claricebean .

Ah yes and sometime we do refer to people as a Bad Hat!

James Bulger was not called Jamie while he was alive That was a media invention. They did similar with "Maddy", whose parents always refer to her as "Madeleine".

If I have a little girl on Monday her middle name is going to be Madeline, after my Mum. I think its a beautiful name if you love it use it It wouldn't make me think of Madeline McCann tbh anymore, sad though that is to admit.

Oh no, I realise that, regina! I was glad you posted the right name, because I was scratching my head thinking, 'That doesn't look right' right after I posted. (Or indeed 'Something is not right' ).
