always makes me think
'Language Timmothy!' from that awful sitcom with Ronnie corbet.

But then I am sad

Sorry dont like it, i know a couple of Tim's tho but never refered to at Timothy. It reminds me of one of the Beatrix Potter characters.

The Tim's I've come accross aren't very atttractive either....

I like it but then its my brothers name. I don't think my brother ever had Tim nice but dim said to him but then he was pretty bright (and big that helps I'm sure )
It doesnt hold people back in any way. Think Burton, Roth and Robbins

I love it.

I wouldn't choose it, but I like it in a crazy 'its a bit sensible and because of that its quirky' kind of way. Like Simon or Christopher

I'm really not surprised ForeverOptimistic!

The one that I know is a genius, so we haven't been affected by the 'nice but' tag.

Unusual choice for a baby these days, but maybe that means that it's due for a revival.

My first love was a Tim so I'm biased, I love it but couldn't use it.

My friend has a 4 yr old ds and she refers to him as Timmy, which I think is just God awful.

I wouldn't chose Christopher after teaching one boy who was learning to write his name. His friend sam had 3 letters S-A-M poor Christopher said 'Oh, what after o?' in a very exasperated voice!

Tim would be great to spell thinking from a Jolly Phonics perspective...

Tim is a great name. It's a name that suits teens and adults too. Timmy is awful, I agree

Yes muppetgirl I am loving all of the names on the name threads at the moment!

Timothy is an underused classic. It was my late step-fathers name but I think it would be too difficult for me to use it because of biological dad & father in law.

love it, my brother is Timothy but only ever called Tim (he's 27 now), its tradional and not really popular at mo which is nice - he did get Tim nice but dim comment but kids will think of anything, not a good reason not to chose a name you like
have to agree Timmy is awful - he's the special needs boy from south park wrong

I like it - it's my brother's name too, although he insists on being called Tim. He was long past school (probably the worst place for teasing) by the time Tim Nice But Dim was on the telly.

I know two small Timothies (Timothys?). One is always known as Timmy (yuk, in my view, but each to their own) and the other always as Timothy. His parents are keen to keep it that way but I suspect that once he gets to nursery or school the tide of Tim will be impossible to turn back!
