My mum was and her friend were laughing that this woman's new granddaughter was called Delilah- they just thought of Tom Jones. I am pg and I think I quite like it- hormones or quite sweet?!

My, my, my .....

FoghornLeghorn Tue 12-Aug-08 19:04:41

Someone on our Ante-Natal thread has just had a Delilah (Aug 08)

lou33 Tue 12-Aug-08 19:05:04

i love it, i wanted it to be dd1's first name but had to settle on it as a middle one

and it was thanks to tom jones, as i used to sing that song all the time when i was a kid

4andnotout Tue 12-Aug-08 19:05:13

You know what will happen
Why? Why? Why? Delilah
I liked it too for my dd4 due in october but everytime i think of it i sing it!

norkmaiden Tue 12-Aug-08 19:06:05

I wouldn't use it but think it's lovely all the same

quickerthistimeplease Tue 12-Aug-08 19:09:12

Blimey- what quick replies. I guess when baby is a bit older Tom Jones won't be around...

DH is welsh and we HAD to have a welsh middle name for DD. If we have another DD his latest welsh suggestions are just ridiculous- I wonder if he'd consider Delilah a sort of compromise grin

I really like it! Makes me think of the recent "hey there Delilah" song...

Pinkchampagne Tue 12-Aug-08 19:14:45

I quite like it, but the Tom Jones song goes straight to my head whenever I hear it!

quickerthistimeplease Tue 12-Aug-08 19:21:50

Just looked up its meaning- one website says 'Pining with desire' , another says 'seductive'. (Samson and Delilah I suppose). seems a bit yucky for a baby girl blush

tassisssss Tue 12-Aug-08 19:24:51

Hmm, I'd think of the Bible story...not a pretty character!

Then I'd think of the song!

SlartyBartFast Tue 12-Aug-08 19:25:57

why, why, why

lauraloola Tue 12-Aug-08 19:26:24

I like it. Its a classic name that will be cute when young and powerful when older x

unknownrebelbang Tue 12-Aug-08 19:27:59

As it's our local football team's chant, it's not a name I'd choose.

Don't dislike the name though.

It's nice and, along with Lilah, seems to be on the rise.

I know a Delilah in her 30s, named by her feminist mother who wanted an empowered name for her dd, although she calls it a 'ball-cutter name' grin. She loves her name now but didn't like the attention it got when she was younger.

I think it's lost it shock value & is actually very pretty. Lilah is a lovely nn.

CantSleepWontSleep Tue 12-Aug-08 20:01:32

I love it, but got bad reactions from everyone else when I tried to put it on our list, as this thread demonstrates!

lou33 Wed 13-Aug-08 01:06:41

i always think it is best to pick the name you want and just present it when the baby is born

otherwise there is always someone who will try to put you off

that way they have to just stfu grin

I love it - will anyone remember Tom Jones in another decade? Her generation certainly won't!

lou33 Wed 13-Aug-08 01:14:18

omg how can anyone forget TOM!!!!

babyOcho Wed 13-Aug-08 03:08:06

I love it. Wanted it for DD but DP vetoed it.
