Does this sound as stupid to other people as it does to me?

We've chosen the middle name of Denise - his granddad's name was Denis and it's a name that recurs through the family.

He wants to give the first name of Nerys (said like Denise, but with an N).

Nerys Denise? He can't see the problem, said it rolls off the tongue! hmm Someone help me make him see sense!

TinkerBellesMum Mon 11-Aug-08 20:53:14

(said like Denise, but with an N)

and an R, obviously!

missblythe Mon 11-Aug-08 20:53:50

No! That is ridiculous!

Sounds like Denis Penis

CompletelyDotty Mon 11-Aug-08 20:53:57

it's unique! i have never heard of that name before!! do you like it??

DorrisMcWhirter Mon 11-Aug-08 20:54:32

too many sssssss I think. Pity as both names are lovely, but together I just don't think they go. I also think (IMO) that names with the same amount of syllables never sound right together.

hollyandnoah Mon 11-Aug-08 20:54:34

I like Denise and Nerys, maybe i like Nerys a little more.. but i don't know about together sorry!

gemmiegoatlegs Mon 11-Aug-08 20:54:34

no no no. it sounds like dennis pennis!

hatwoman Mon 11-Aug-08 20:55:20

I wouldn;t expect Nerys and Denise to rhyme tbh - I think of Nerys pronounced nare-ris and Denise as de-nees. but eithre way it's completely daft. you are so right

NorthernLurker Mon 11-Aug-08 20:56:50

No that's not going to work - you are right. He is wrong!

TinkerBellesMum Mon 11-Aug-08 20:56:57

Nerys is Welsh (and Bajoran, I just suggested Kira Denise instead but he wasn't impressed)

I do like both names, Nerys was on our first list with Tink, but not together.

Hecate Mon 11-Aug-08 20:57:00

It is a really stupid combination, imo.

Ledodgy Mon 11-Aug-08 20:58:17

It doesn't ryme as such but it does sound like Nerys da neice if you're a scouser like me.grin

Ledodgy Mon 11-Aug-08 20:58:28

*rhyme

DorrisMcWhirter Mon 11-Aug-08 21:00:28

Could you go for a variation. Just had a quick look at baby name sites and Denni is amongst them. Not sure I'm that keen but may be a compromise. (I'd always think of that BLondie tune!)

Bronze Mon 11-Aug-08 21:01:45

I don't think they rhyme either but don't sound right together.

NotAnOtter Mon 11-Aug-08 21:01:59

i think it sounds fine

Nerys is adorable

Denise is like Nice in france stick with it x

1wish Mon 11-Aug-08 21:03:39

So is it Nerys said like Ner reece (pretty name btw) but that would be silly with Denise as a middle name

Ledodgy Mon 11-Aug-08 21:06:06

Nerys is pronounced Ner-is isn't it?

I was just going by how tink was saying it was pronouced (sp) which will be the way she will say it i imagine.

If it doesn't rhyme then that would be fine, but i got the impression OP thought it did smile

TinkerBellesMum Mon 11-Aug-08 21:12:52

Thanks 1wish, that's just how it's said.

He just asked about doing it the other way around! He's upset now cause Mum just said no! I'm actually not sure how serious he's beeing hmm

WowOoo Mon 11-Aug-08 21:12:53

Please if you choose it don't say Nerys like Ner-eeeese. Lovely Welsh name : Ner-iss. Have been told by a non Welsh that I said it wrongly and I was just horrified!

Two together sound baaad, but when will you say them together? Know what you mean though...

I'm only voting for animal names now that I've read someone is planning to call their DS Bear.

So I think you should drop Nerys and Denise and go for Running Deer.

WowOoo Mon 11-Aug-08 21:15:12

It's not Ner-ise either. Just spell it the way you want it maybe?!!
