Tess?

Hi all we're expecting our 2nd baby in 6 weeks and don't know if its a boy or girl.

We already have 1 ds, Harry, and are pretty set on George William for a boy although I really like Toby/Tobias William - which do you think goes best with Harry? Dh likes names that can't be shortened

We both really like Tess for a girl however not keen on the formal version e.g. Teresa, do you think Tess stands well on its own? Full name would be Tess Elisabeth Edwards.

The only other thing thats putting me off is someone said its a teasable name e.g. Ten Ton Tess or Tess-Tickle - what do you think, are there any other Tess's out there that have had that kind of teasing??

Really lovely name. Fab. Kids will always come up with something, so it's not something you can worry about too much (I reckon).

I know of one actually, but I really don't like it. Teresa I absolutely hate. I am hearing the word 'saint' hanging in the air before it. Much more so than with say Agatha or Anne eg.

Elisabeth is nicer, with Beth as a nn?

I prefer Toby with Harry. THey fit, but they are less royalty themed.

Tess is a lovely name.

You can attach a nasty nickname or rhyme to any name out there so don't let that out you off.

Go for it, it's beautiful

I like it but I don't think it scans well with Elisabeth Edwards.

I think Tessa Edwards sounds fine but Tess Edwards seems to run together into one word. I don't think Tess/Tessa goes with Elisabeth either.

I wouldn't worry about the teasing aspect tbh.

To be honest I have never thought it was short for Theresa - just presumed it was short for Tessa. I'd go for Tessa and shorten it to Tess. Does make me think of Tess Daly but you can't have everything

Tess is ok. Lots of people will tell you about dogs called Tess, without considering that dogs should not be allowed to monopolise human names.

My DD2 is Tess and we absolutely love it, she is Tess Louisa. Tess is a beautiful, strong name....we actually call her Tessie a lot.

I haven't met another little one with the name yet and I like that, my DD1 has a more popular name and there are 4 with her name at pre school.

Go for it..x

No pointy! I'm a big softie and I like a name to be a attractive sound. so, no.

But like a pp said earlier, it's better than say 'Bracken'. I've heard worse names.

Oh I see, you think it's not an attractive sound because it rhymes with hiss, sort of. Your brain moves in myseterious ways, rocc

We had a french bulldog called Tess and she was delightful, love it, love it, love it!

when she is older people will endlessly say 'oh like tess of the d'urbervilles' to which you have to say endlessly 'you DO realise that she came to a Very Bad End after having an illegitimate child and being abandoned on her wedding night and murdering her lover don't you?. So No, not really like Tess of the D'Urbervilles at all'

and if you call her Tess people will assume it is short for Teresa.

but I love it! we have two tessas in the family and we both think we are very special.

I only know one Tess - she is a fabulous little girl with a really cheeky sense of humour ...go for it!
