I'm looking for suggestions on an Arabic Girls name (with meaning!) that's easy to say in english...needs to work with Sami (big bro) and a V. long surname!
I love Leila, Mona (said mun-a), Rana, Dana...but DH won't agree to any!
DH wants Mia (said My-a) but I can't find a meaning for it, and it just seems a little too common at the mo...
Any ideas?!

Zahra's a fav of mine too, but a friend got there first, same with Hana, Nadia, Nada.
As Sami DS is also Grandpa's name we want something different...
It's so hard :S

Ok gave new list of names to hubby and got this response...(he's very annoying! LOL)

Farah - dont like it,
tahira - no
tamara - no 'it reminds me of the ring!'
nuha - completely ignored
amber - yay! he likes it - but is saying no at this stage cos unsure of pronunciation in Arabic...he's concerned its Am'ra with an ein (for any arabic speakers out there) and if it is it's very diferent to english...can anyone help with this? I love the name!
Please keep the suggestions coming...

If its Amber with an ein then it will be tricky for English speakers - am loving Sami btw - that's my name of choice if we have another boy...well, have to start trying first! lol!!

Oh and some more I've just thought of:

Samia
Sorayah
Alma

Didn't try Maisha yet...not sure how to say it to be honest...hubby's overseas at mo so will have to try tomorrow.
Thing is I feel like I've tried everything with him, but he is stuck on Mya - I have lebanese friends who say there is a meaning but I can't find it on any site! I don't dislike the name I just want meaning...
I'm stuck on Leila...lol...he won't budge!
Now I REALLY LIKE Amber, but again am unsure of how it is pronounced in Arabic...so's hubby who's also open to it...if anyone can clarify please do! Please don't let there be an ein! :S

Salam Puss!
Tried alot of your names already...tried Safia (safiyyah) too (thanks wrinklytum (great name btw)) I'm stuck...
Puss I love Samia...but really, Sami and Samia! hehehe. That's desperation!
Tuqa's nice, I've not across it before...what does it mean?

Tuqa means piety iirc....a friends DD is called this and its so pretty and it can't really be shortened which imo, is good as I'm not a fan of shortening names....except for my own of course

Ok, just asked DH about the pronouncement (he's Syrian) and he thinks the A would be with the ein so..would sound more like Anbarr (remember the rolling of the r's!!) and the A would be from the back of the throat ie the ein...
