Whats the general consensus on these names, and which do you think sounds better?

Tigerschick Tue 05-Aug-08 14:12:06

Edwin

noddyholder Tue 05-Aug-08 14:14:06

edgar

Rhubarb Tue 05-Aug-08 14:14:34

You are kidding right?

MrsJamin Tue 05-Aug-08 14:14:44

I like these two but I rather like Edmund too (DH vetoed on it thought!)

Celery Tue 05-Aug-08 14:14:53

There is also Edmund.

WendyWeber Tue 05-Aug-08 14:15:26

Neither (sorry)

noddyholder Tue 05-Aug-08 14:16:51

its my middle name so i would say that!

Ellbell Tue 05-Aug-08 14:17:29

I like Edmund or Edward more than these two. Of the two, I think I prefer Edwin, but that might be because my mum had a cousin called Edgar but everyone pronounced it Egger.

FranSanDisco Tue 05-Aug-08 14:26:12

I prefer Edwin of the two. My old Head was called Edgar XXXXX so reminds me of a strict bald bloke grin

Cies Tue 05-Aug-08 15:05:17

Out of the two I prefer Edwin, although I think Edward and Edmund are nicer.

Edmund - nice grin

or Edward is nice too.

Edgar sounds malicous and sneaky to me (sorry, not sure why!)
Edwin sounds a bit wimpy. Again sorry can't tell you why, it just does.

Eddie then?

EffiePerine Tue 05-Aug-08 15:55:41

I like Edwin. Also Edmund. Not Edgar for some reason.

TwoBigNorks Tue 05-Aug-08 18:13:56

Edward

Edwin

(or Edward)

Anna8888 Tue 05-Aug-08 18:15:58

Edward is lovely.

Edgar is pretentious and pretty but bearable.

Edmund is pretentious and ugly.

Edwin is silly.

pointydog Tue 05-Aug-08 18:21:37

Are you joking?? Edwin, if a choice is necessary. You could say it's after Edwyn Collins to add some cool. But it's a bit girly.

flack Tue 05-Aug-08 18:43:28

I love Edgar, fantastic name imho. Don't warm to Edwin (thinking Edwina Currie).

BellaBear Tue 05-Aug-08 18:46:26

Love Edgar, reminds me of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City where the twins are named Anna and Edgar.

I've taught a lovely (and very cool!) Edwin, as well. Stands out without being silly.

bessmum Tue 05-Aug-08 18:51:04

Edmund

Elkat Tue 05-Aug-08 19:23:00

Ah, well think I must be a lone voice who really like the name Edwin. Think it is nice but without the over popularity of Edward. Given that the child is likely to be an Ed or Ted or whatever anyway... I really like Edwin (but had lots of cool reactions when we considered it with DD2).

noddyholder Tue 05-Aug-08 20:18:40

malicious and sneaky shock how very dare you!

moondog Tue 05-Aug-08 20:19:59

Edwin is great. I've knownsome lovely Edwins.
Edgar was name of horrid boy in Famous Five books and therefore a no no.
