Hello again.

Can't believe how indecisive I am. Having absolutely decided on Sebastian I am now having second thoughts (again) but I literally have nothing else I like. I always wanted something slightly less common but not so way out iykwim.

I had considered Rory but then decided against, then Thomas but thought maybe too popular, then Toby but DH doesn't like it. going to have a nameless child at this rate!!

More suggestions or opinions on the above please. Already got an Oliver btw.

I LOVE Rowan (or Roan) but DH says it's a bit wet. I don't agree so will put it to him again.

What about Roman - similar feel but stronger sound

unfortunately I convinced dh of its merits before we even thought of children and now he refuses to budge so if I have another son it looks like it will be a Roman...

I assume that as you have an Oliver that you are looking for something traditional but not too common

So how about

Hugo, Caspar, Toby, Gaius, Miles, all go with Oliver.

Good list from ten10. All underused right now but familiar. Love Jeremy with Jem for short, Marcus lovely too, Roman Classic, Dominic, Geoffrey, hmm, like Jeff a lot, Gregory love and maybe could be Rory for short? Edgar unusual, makes a change from Edward. Same with Edmund. Corin interesting. Prefer Corbin. All of those go well with Oliver too. But not cliché well, like Oliver and Sebastian. I can just see the straw boaters and the striped blazers.

hw2004 Sat 02-Aug-08 21:40:05

I do love Edward and I think it goes nicely with Oliver as same sort of name iykwim. Also like Dominic but bloody dh is a nightmare - he seems to have objections to everything.

HonoriaGlossop Sat 02-Aug-08 21:43:15

ooh go for Edward then! This is my absolute fave name at the moment, and it has so many lovely shortenings; Ed, Eddie, Ted, Teddy, Ned.......go aan, go aan.....

funnypeculiar Sat 02-Aug-08 21:45:30

Edward's lovely - and surprisingly underused atm, imho - perhaps partly because of the different shortenings you don't feel overrun with 'em smile

my friend has an Oliver & Oscar and think it sounds great
Not too keen on Sebastian though sorry

Alexander? Sacha or zander for short?
Louis, Lewis

all good solid names!

hw2004 Sat 02-Aug-08 22:06:07

what does everyone think to Joseph? Joe?

FiveGoMadInDorset Sat 02-Aug-08 22:08:38

My nephew is Jospeh/Joe, as is my cousin, DS's middle name is Joseph, first name Sebastian, so like your names, DH turned down Barnaby which I love.

HonoriaGlossop Sat 02-Aug-08 22:08:51

It's ok - but dare I say a little boring? It's a blend into the background kind of name IMO.....

hw2004 - you sounds like me and my DP - we can't agree on boys names at all! You seem to have similar taste to me - I love the name Oliver and wanted to give it to DS but DP wasn't keen! Am trying to change his mind so we can give it to DC2 if its a boy! Other than that this is my current shortlist (longlist!):

Any help?

hw2004 Sun 03-Aug-08 20:48:31

my boys are Ollie (Oliver) and Freddie and fwiw they were booth named after they were born!

reindeermum Sun 03-Aug-08 21:01:39

Only choose Thomas if you don't mind there being at least four other THomases in his class, if not ten!

hw2004 Sun 03-Aug-08 21:04:07

reindeermum - I did think that and tbh it's been what has put me off but when I thought about it I don't know a single one in my son's nursery or his pre-school. Maybe it's becoming less fashionable - hopefully???

reindeermum Sun 03-Aug-08 21:11:16

don't think so - yours must be only nursery in the country without a Thomas!

Maybe when you see him a name you hadn't even considered will suddenly just seem right (this happened with my ds1, although not until he was nearly a week old!) Don't panic!

I love ClaireBears idea of Oliver and Oscar. It sounds so cute!

Helsbels4 Sun 03-Aug-08 21:18:45

No Thomas' in my Ds' year at school. He's a Ciaran. I really like Roman or how about Charles (Charlie) to go with Oliver? (Oliver Twist/Charles Dickens). Just a thought.

hw2004 Sun 03-Aug-08 21:24:04

I have to say I love Oliver and Oscar together aswell - it's so cute. Trying to talk DH into it but he thinks Oscar will date. god men are such hard work!!!
