her dp thought it up after leeds football club ellen road.

CuckooClockWorkShy Sat 02-Aug-08 20:13:03

I like that.

Ellen is more fashionable than Helen, so it wouldn't occur to me that the name was Helen if I heard Ellen.. hmm

Ellen Rosemary nice too.

edam Sat 02-Aug-08 20:13:04

And Ellen's a name that has been around for hundreds of years. So don't understand the 'ooh, but it sounds as if you've got Helen wrong' line of argument. Helen's only become popular in this country relatively recently.

LaDiDaDi Sat 02-Aug-08 20:13:08

Very nice.

belgo Sat 02-Aug-08 20:13:34

It's fine. Ellen is a nice name.

CuckooClockWorkShy Sat 02-Aug-08 20:15:40

Nobody says that Anna is Hannah wrong. I prefer Anna to Hannah, I prefer Ellen to Helen. Just my taste though of course.

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk Sat 02-Aug-08 20:30:54

oh yes we all[well us here] prefer ellen to helen, but just wondering about confusion

melpomene Sat 02-Aug-08 20:35:49

StealthPolarBear Sat 02-Aug-08 20:38:21

Leeds is the onyl thing that comes to my mind

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk Sat 02-Aug-08 20:39:44

polar bear, you worked it out.

mamabea Sat 02-Aug-08 20:44:13

like it very much

StealthPolarBear Sat 02-Aug-08 20:44:56

Well my parents neighbours daughter called her dd that a few years ago. I REALLY like the names but I'm not keen on 'gimmick' iyswim. on the other hand if there's no link with leeds I would like it better - illogical I know!

milkgoddessmakesthefinestmilk Sat 02-Aug-08 20:46:38

oh ive just been asked to post, what about all the hell and back type jokes?

there must be loads of hell jokes?

StealthPolarBear Sat 02-Aug-08 20:48:26

I think ellen is quite a common name (common in a good way), haven't heard any of that type of joke

GrapeJelly Sat 02-Aug-08 22:18:54

Very pretty. You could call her Ellie Rose too

princessglitter Sat 02-Aug-08 22:19:56

pretty name.

Thinkstoomuch Sat 02-Aug-08 22:22:06

Love it.

Cezzy Sat 02-Aug-08 22:23:17

DD is called Eleanor Rose and she prefers the full version rather than Ellie, although we did use this as a baby.

She has also had no problems with spelling it.

We do sometimes use the nickname Els Bels but she doesn't seem to mind.
