i love the name Sebastian and Seb for short.

Fimbo Thu 31-Jul-08 17:48:12

Love it. A couple of MN'ers have Sebastians.

Dd's friend's big brother is called Sebastian shortened to Seb which is equally lovely.

lastboxoftampons Thu 31-Jul-08 17:51:27

My DH is Sebastian. It's a lot to say on a regular basis, so we call him Seb, which I don't particularly care for. Not sure I could ever name a child it.

AnnVan Thu 31-Jul-08 17:54:23

Im pg - if it's a boy its going to be called Sebastian!

sophiewd Thu 31-Jul-08 18:02:23

DS, 6 weeks today, is Sebastian, Bas for short

mamalovesmojitos Thu 31-Jul-08 19:05:26

i luuuuuuurve it. knew before dd was born that i couldn't get away with it with my surname.

Fimbo Thu 31-Jul-08 19:08:51

Bas - no no no no no, spoils the name. Sounds like you have shortened Barry. Seb Seb Seb grin

falcon Thu 31-Jul-08 19:08:52

I love it, a good strong classic name.

I'm not a fan of Seb though, but then I'm not very fond of shortening names, as a rule.

JonahTakalua Thu 31-Jul-08 19:10:48

There suddenly seems to be hordes of Sebastians round here.

PrimulaVeris Thu 31-Jul-08 19:16:46

It is a nice name and I do like it, though wouldn't choose it myself.

It can be seen as rather posh & poncey. If you know more Julians than Trevors you'll be OK!

St. Sebastian - gay icon. So - great!

FabioThatFirggingCat Thu 31-Jul-08 21:41:30

J'approve.

Sazisi Fri 01-Aug-08 10:50:45

I love the name. Friends gorgeous DS is called Sebastian, so good associations

nickeldime Fri 01-Aug-08 17:00:59

Nice-sounding name with a great meaning 'respected, venerable, augustus'. It's very trendy from the recent popularity charts: www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Sebastian

pointydog Fri 01-Aug-08 17:14:07

belgo Fri 01-Aug-08 17:21:22

I really dislike this one.

insywinsyspider Fri 01-Aug-08 22:36:04

think about how it sounds when you are having to tell them off in public... it failed that test for us I though it might sound too pretentious....

Lonnie Sat 02-Aug-08 02:13:24

I love it but my dh and ALL of his mates LOATHE it.. so it is worth remembering it is one that provokes some STRONG feelings
