Am asking for someone else, so be brutal, I'll summarise!

greenday Thu 31-Jul-08 11:19:09

Hah, just last week, I read a health article in the papers and the person conducting the research was a Dr Saskia-something, and ... unconsiously and unintentionally ... I 'discounted' the credibility. Something about the name that screams 'don't take me seriously'. Maybe something to do with that awful character from Big Brother too.

MaryAnnSingleton Thu 31-Jul-08 11:22:07

Vanessa Feltz has a dd called Saskia as does a friend of miNe. I wouldn't think it hinders credibility - is a nice name. I remember that Saskia in BB and that loathesome Maxwell she hooked up with

missorinoco Thu 31-Jul-08 11:22:52

I like it.

MyEye Thu 31-Jul-08 11:23:44

zippitippitoes Thu 31-Jul-08 11:24:16

TigerFeet Thu 31-Jul-08 11:24:18

artichokes Thu 31-Jul-08 11:43:45

I like it but DH vetoed it on the grounds its very posh and sloaney.

RusselBrussel Thu 31-Jul-08 11:44:37

I love it! But I am Dutch and grew up with quite a few Saskias!!

Lovely name, wish I had used it for dd.

MaryAnnSingleton Thu 31-Jul-08 11:52:08

grin hippi !

HumphreyPillow Thu 31-Jul-08 11:53:15

I like it.

RusselBrussel Thu 31-Jul-08 11:58:27

MAS, are you stalking me?? grin

I am procrastinating - should go and sort out the swimming stuff (still wet and in the bag) and then prepare lunch...

DrNortherner Thu 31-Jul-08 11:59:34

I love it. I want it if I have a dd but it does not at all go with my surname as I have double ss in my surname.

citronella Thu 31-Jul-08 11:59:56

Lovely name! If I had had a girl I'd have called her Saskia

MaryAnnSingleton Thu 31-Jul-08 12:04:11

no hippi grin - am killing time until lunch and then Sainsbury's !!

LynetteScavo Thu 31-Jul-08 12:05:24

I like it, and would use it.

Boobz Thu 31-Jul-08 12:08:03

It's on my list. I grew up in Holland (but am not Dutch) so it's not that unusual to me. It's pretty and there won't be 10 of them in the nursery class, which is why I like it.

Your friend's daughter will clearly end up in my daughter's class now, obviously.

hw2004 Thu 31-Jul-08 12:26:45

Was there a mad woman in Eastenders who killed someone by bashing them over the head with an ashtray? Or was she bashed??

anyway, it's a nice name

Twinkie1 Thu 31-Jul-08 12:28:00

Love it but it does remind me of the big breasted harlot from BB!

Lizzylou Thu 31-Jul-08 12:31:46

Love it, one of DH's relatives has a daughter called Saskia, MIL has terrible trouble pronouncing it though (wtf?), calls her "Sarkia" hmm

Boobz Thu 31-Jul-08 12:46:15

I wouldn't worry about the BB connection - who can remember the names of any of them past the last couple of years anyway? Will be forgotten by the time child is in school.

Cies Thu 31-Jul-08 13:03:30

I like it. However, for me, it does have an upper class, sloaney ring to it.

moondog Thu 31-Jul-08 13:05:52

No.Nmae chosen by people trying to beclassy only to discover millions of others have chosen it.

zazen Thu 31-Jul-08 13:13:05

Saskia is a variant of Alexandra. I like it.
