Baby names

Topaz? or Wallis for my third (hopefully) girl? Or neither ? All feedback gratefully received........

TTC third baby. Hoping for (another) girl. My other 2 girls have slightly unusual but pretty names and need something that 'goes' (so am not considering things like Rachel, Anna, Chloe etc) pretty as they may be. What do you think......or are Topaz and Wallis a stretch too far? My DH also likes Cameron (for a girl) - he wanted it for DH1 and 2, but I didn't go for it.

Wallis is a clothing store and should remain as such

Topaz - hmm, I'll chew that one over.

(However I do like Cameron - sorry!)

Nooooooooooo.

Wallis and Cameron sound like boys' names/surnames and Topaz is, sorry, just dreadful.

Rachel is actually quite unusual as a baby name these days - and very lovely.

Nay to either of them (but then my dd's name is on your unwanted list!).

Give us the other dc names then we can judge help

Wallis, I know Wallis Simpson (ghastly woman!) but I think slightly downmarket middle-aged person's dress shop.
Topaz is OK, I suppose, though I wonder what it would be shortened to.
I prefer names with a bit of history to them really so suspect you'd hate my kids' names or at least find them deadly dull!

Neither, sorry. And Cameron is a boys name in my experience, I wouldn't think of it as a girls name.

When I saw Wallis I thought 'oh is that shop still around' but thirty seconds later I really, really like it. Like Wallis Simpson.

I love it!

But it is a shop. Does it still exist?

Imagine yelling 'COME HERE TOPAZ' in Tescos.

Topaz - awful.
Wallis - a shop
Cameron - a surname.

A big not to all of them.

Oh Wallis Simpson! of course. Still not a nice name IMO.

Isnt Cameron a boys name? I know i know, but i would assume anyone with this name is male - sorry.

Wallis - i am sorry but i agree with Walnut

Topaz - not to sure on, but then it is popular at the moment to call a girl after a semi/precious stone eg pearl, ruby etc etc

Wallis is a shop.

Topaz I would immediately think Chav if I met someone called Topaz

Cameron means she will forever be mistaken for a man!

JulesJules · 28/07/2008 15:45

Neither, sorry. Wallis is a shop and Topaz is probably an exotic dancer

muggglewump · 28/07/2008 15:45

Cameron is OK but the other two are not. Sorry but Topaz is just awful

I've chewed, I'm not keen.

Try again - come on, rack your brains!

cameron is ok; wallis and topaz are awful

When i was thinking of names, a friend of mine said - your should give them a name that cross all boundaries ie could you imagine a prime minister being called Topaz? You never know what your DC will do with their lives. Just a thought. IMVHO

None of them! Cameron is a boys name, Topaz and Wallis are ugly (and the only Wallis anyone will know is Wallis Simpson, which isn't really great).

I knew a little girl called Cameron. Maybe after Cameron Diaz?

Still think it's awful though.

I really don't like the boys names/surnames as first names thing.

Topaz is just a little odd. Along the same lines as Amethyst, Pearl, Sapphire.

Ouch!
Ok thanks for that and glad I can tell DH no-one agrees about the Cameron thing (he's Scottish so the kids should have Scottish names he says).
Bit disappointed at the reaction to Topaz - think it's quite pretty and unusual but was concerned about potential Chavyness (sp?) Better than Ruby though, non? and there are loads of them about.
So...
What about Allegra, Margeaux (or Margot), Pascale or Felicity (where did that come from?)
Or any other suggestions......don't want to reveal my other kids names as I never know who's reading and nobody knows we're trying for another one........but they are slightly old fashioned pretty names.
