TTC third baby. Hoping for (another) girl. My other 2 girls have slightly unusual but pretty names and need something that 'goes' (so am not considering things like Rachel, Anna, Chloe etc) pretty as they may be. What do you think......or are Topaz and Wallis a stretch too far? My DH also likes Cameron (for a girl) - he wanted it for DH1 and 2, but I didn't go for it.

Wallis is a clothing store and should remain as such grin

Topaz - hmm, I'll chew that one over.

Walnutshell Mon 28-Jul-08 15:42:01

(However I do like Cameron - sorry!)

berolina Mon 28-Jul-08 15:42:46

Nooooooooooo.

Wallis and Cameron sound like boys' names/surnames and Topaz is, sorry, just dreadful.

Rachel is actually quite unusual as a baby name these days - and very lovely.

Nay to either of them (but then my dd's name is on your unwanted list!).

Give us the other dc names then we can judge help

Wallis, I know Wallis Simpson (ghastly woman!) but I think slightly downmarket middle-aged person's dress shop.
Topaz is OK, I suppose, though I wonder what it would be shortened to.
I prefer names with a bit of history to them really so suspect you'd hate my kids' names or at least find them deadly dull!

flowerybeanbag Mon 28-Jul-08 15:43:05

Neither, sorry. And Cameron is a boys name in my experience, I wouldn't think of it as a girls name.

savoycabbage Mon 28-Jul-08 15:43:26

When I saw Wallis I thought 'oh is that shop still around' but thirty seconds later I really, really like it. Like Wallis Simpson.

I love it!

But it is a shop. Does it still exist?

MsDemeanor Mon 28-Jul-08 15:43:47

what abut Vita?

Fimbo Mon 28-Jul-08 15:43:53

Berolina my dd will love you forever.

flowerybeanbag Mon 28-Jul-08 15:43:59

Imagine yelling 'COME HERE TOPAZ' in Tescos.

belgo Mon 28-Jul-08 15:44:05

Topaz - awful.
Wallis - a shop
Cameron - a surname.

A big not to all of them.

berolina Mon 28-Jul-08 15:44:13

Oh Wallis Simpson! of course. Still not a nice name IMO.

Isnt Cameron a boys name? I know i know, but i would assume anyone with this name is male - sorry.

Wallis - i am sorry but i agree with Walnut

Topaz - not to sure on, but then it is popular at the moment to call a girl after a semi/precious stone eg pearl, ruby etc etc

Twinkie1 Mon 28-Jul-08 15:45:07

Wallis is a shop.

Topaz I would immediately think Chav if I met someone called Topaz

Cameron means she will forever be mistaken for a man!

JulesJules Mon 28-Jul-08 15:45:37

Neither, sorry. Wallis is a shop and Topaz is probably an exotic dancer grin

muggglewump Mon 28-Jul-08 15:45:48

Cameron is OK but the other two are not. Sorry but Topaz is just awful

Walnutshell Mon 28-Jul-08 15:46:22

I've chewed, I'm not keen.

Try again - come on, rack your brains!

isaidno Mon 28-Jul-08 15:47:03

cameron is ok; wallis and topaz are awful

TeaDr1nker Mon 28-Jul-08 15:47:28

When i was thinking of names, a friend of mine said - your should give them a name that cross all boundaries ie could you imagine a prime minister being called Topaz? You never know what your DC will do with their lives. Just a thought. IMVHO

nooka Mon 28-Jul-08 15:48:17

None of them! Cameron is a boys name, Topaz and Wallis are ugly (and the only Wallis anyone will know is Wallis Simpson, which isn't really great).

Sidge Mon 28-Jul-08 15:48:38

I knew a little girl called Cameron. Maybe after Cameron Diaz?

Still think it's awful though.

I really don't like the boys names/surnames as first names thing.

Topaz is just a little odd. Along the same lines as Amethyst, Pearl, Sapphire.
