good name or too eric clapton?

also which variant do people like laila or layla?

DH will hate it anyway...

EffiePerine Thu 17-Jul-08 15:57:44

Layla or Leyla I think

not all that keen tbh

What about Laura?

Loriycs Thu 17-Jul-08 16:00:28

laila, or even better - leila
i dont like it with the Y as i think laYla could become replaced with something derogatory in teenage years if you know what i mean........

Pretty name, prefer laila or leila. However round these parts (N.London) every other girl seems to be called some variation on leila.

Anna8888 Thu 17-Jul-08 16:15:52

Leila is usual spelling.

I don't like it one little bit.

whatironing Thu 17-Jul-08 16:18:09

I had no idea it was 'on trend'!

Leila is nice. Oh this name thing is difficult!

slim22 Thu 17-Jul-08 16:25:16

How about

Leya
Layan
Layani

pedilia Thu 17-Jul-08 16:38:07

I have just called DD4 (3 weeks) Layla, there are no other laylqs in school/nusery, I chose that spelling as Leila can be pronounced leela.
Obviously i love itsmile

egyptianprincess Thu 17-Jul-08 16:55:59

i am a laila (pronounced lila). i have to say- i always get compliments on my name.
lila is the egyptian pronounciation-means loved one in arabic. layla is the common pronounciation in the rest of the middle east and the one favored by eric clapton.

Its nice and I dont think it matters that its very Clapton, there are worse songs!

Bumperlicious Thu 17-Jul-08 17:27:55

My DD is almost that name but without the first 'a'. Never met anyone else called it, but not too "out there". We love and always get complements on it.

WelliesAndPyjamas Thu 17-Jul-08 17:31:45

I think it's pretty and feminine, but also quite strong. Doesn't make me think of Eric Clapton.

OverMyDeadBody Thu 17-Jul-08 17:34:51

It is, without a doubt, the best name in the world. I prefer the spelling Layla but it doesn't make much difference really, some people will get it wrong no matter how you spell it.

I'm not a fan of the name Anna though.

LittleMissBliss Thu 17-Jul-08 17:35:49

i think its a beautiful name!

LuLuBai Thu 17-Jul-08 19:04:18

Love it. Would spell it Leila.

ByTheSea Thu 17-Jul-08 19:05:08

I like the name but would also spell it Leila.

hw2004 Fri 18-Jul-08 13:03:27

Really like it. There is one at DS's nursery spelt Leila but I quite like spelling Layla.

landj Fri 18-Jul-08 18:24:45

My DD is Leila, I've met no others so I had no idea it was common! BUT... I AM FED UP with correcting people. ITS NOT PRONOUNCED LEELA!!!! Well, not by my reconing. Leila is an arabic word meaning night. So normally given to girls born at night, or dark haired. Mine born blonde at noon. Oh well!! AND... DH is a huge Eric Clapton fan.

Looks like among these forms, Layla's the most popular! Next in line are Laila, Leila, Lila and Leyla. Check out the piechart here:
