1) Auriel

2) Geno

All views, however harsh, are welcome!!!

I'm not sure that there are words in the English language harsh enough to describe my views! They both sound like soap powders.

1) Sounds like a girl's name or a washing powder
2) Dexy's Midnight Runners song.

Auriel - french and feminine sounding
Geno - quite cool but I'm sure most will assume Italian Gino (as in "Gino oh Gino Ginelli|")

BellaBunting Wed 16-Jul-08 17:44:56

PMSL at your replies!!!

Ah, but the Dexy's song was in tribute to Geno Washington and I believe Auriel is an archangel (not that either of these facts is why I like the names!!!!)

Dragonbutter Wed 16-Jul-08 17:49:46

auriel is a bit too close to areola in my mind.

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow Wed 16-Jul-08 17:51:13

Geno makes me think of Dexy's and Geno Washington (am old enough to remember DMR on TOTP).

Never heard of Auriel as a name so Googled it and learnt that it is a girl's name related to Aurelia (the baby name dictionary says).

Have to say these choices would be too bold for me, but only you can judge!

QueenBhannae Wed 16-Jul-08 17:53:22

Auriel is beautiful.
Geno is naff imo and I have family members called it (italian)

TheRealPhartiphukborlz Wed 16-Jul-08 17:55:52

geno, geno, geno... love dexy's song.
don't like auriel

TwoFir Wed 16-Jul-08 18:07:31

Auriel in the playground may become oral
What about the little mermaid spelling?
less aural

Fanella Wed 16-Jul-08 18:10:51

The Archangel was Uriel. I know cos it's in a Kate Bush song

Geno reminds me of the Dexys song or makes me think of a stereotypical Noo Yoik Italian pizza shop owner.

donnie Wed 16-Jul-08 18:14:30

I used to know a girl named Oriel.

MummyDoIt Wed 16-Jul-08 18:15:42

As others have said, Auriel too much like the mermaid and the washing powder. He'll be given hell in the playground. Plus he'll have to spend the rest of his life spelling it out to people.

I know an Eileen who is thoroughly sick of people singing 'Come on Eileen' to her so would not recommend naming your child after a Dexy's song.

tommiles001 Wed 16-Jul-08 18:28:41

Auriel sounds like a morph of the rather popular names Aurora and Ariel, but it doesn't sound that nice though, IMHO.

floaty Wed 16-Jul-08 18:33:15

Auriol is a girls name ,I know two.Isn't she the spirit in Shakespeareares The Tempest?

iMum Wed 16-Jul-08 18:38:28

Geno is fab and I would love to call my ds it.

I don't like either of them for CDs reasons. If you really like Auriel I would chose the more common spelling Uriel, but it's still very obscure, and a bit feminine.

ScummyMummy Wed 16-Jul-08 18:40:30

both vile

lou031205 Wed 16-Jul-08 19:10:06

I would say they are unusual for a reason!
