Baby names

AIBU to think that when the baby is born the midwives should pull a Harry Potter Style 'sorting hat' from their bag and HE should name the baby?! This is far too hard!

I agree, don't know what flavour ours is yet but if it's a boy we're in trouble, it'll never have a name.

Litterbug, a first Letter that you like might get you some new ideas, do you want an average name, uncommon name, name with meaning?

Oh do it for me! [hijacks]

No "F" sounds as a start, thanks to surname.
No "J"

Not too common, nothing ridiculous though. I hate wrong spellings.

Please!

It's not finding names we like that is the problem - it is finding names that none of our friends have named their children.

I think we might use Matthew if this one is a boy. Not way out, not overly popular, and the shortened version of Matt is also nice.

What are your other dcs called so we can get a sense of your naming style?

I have a jake, and am after a girls name, but I feel differently about boys and girls names.

I like

Evelyn
Penelope
Eleanor
Cecily
Meredith

Dh likes

Ruth
Megan

We cannot agree and I need new inspiration in the hope if finding something we both like.

I think they should just be known as Child 1 , Child 2 etc and then they can pick their own names at say 21. Whatever you give them, they will not like anyway.

Omg, not on your life should you let him name baby (or at least, not if he's half as much a kernob as my XH. No offence, I'm sure your dh is not).

XH wanted to call DS1 Paris. Very nice name, except we live on a housing estate where life ain't easy for a boy named Gay Parree.

Don't let him! Keep thinking

Give yourself a break and think of some of the most unsuitable names to go with your surname! Caused much enjoyment in our house.

Did someone say that Matthew doesn't have an "F" sound in it? It does in our bit of Kent!

Am fed up. Am asking DH to write a list with 10 names on it that he would seriously consider as him only coming up with 2 is seriously pissing me off. He also thinks that because he has only thought of 2, they should get more serious consideration than any of mine. He thinks it is not possible to come up with 10 names....

Lucky dip?
