AIBU to think that when the baby is born the midwives should pull a Harry Potter Style 'sorting hat' from their bag and HE should name the baby?! This is far too hard!

I agree, don't know what flavour ours is yet but if it's a boy we're in trouble, it'll never have a name.

Litterbug Sun 13-Jul-08 21:23:43

I have 2 lads already so am finding it hard to find names I like but haven't used yet.

I really can't imagine finding something i like! and that DH does too!

LazyLinePainterJane Sun 13-Jul-08 21:26:36

I concur, I have had enough of thinking of names.

No thanks!

StealthPolarBear Sun 13-Jul-08 21:29:42

ohhh pleeeeeeeease
What's wrong with Jones? hmm

MatNanPlus Sun 13-Jul-08 21:32:46

Litterbug, a first Letter that you like might get you some new ideas, do you want an average name, uncommon name, name with meaning?

whoopsididitagain Sun 13-Jul-08 21:37:05

i know one mumsnetter who was struggling to name her third child who was a boy and she already had one of each but they put in their first two lo's name in google and it turned out they were both towns in this state in the us and they then found another name they liked from the other town names in the state

that is the story i was told any way hmm i am quite gullible will have to go check now lol

LazyLinePainterJane Mon 14-Jul-08 08:18:56

Oh do it for me! [hijacks]

No "F" sounds as a start, thanks to surname.
No "J"

Not too common, nothing ridiculous though. I hate wrong spellings.

It's not finding names we like that is the problem - it is finding names that none of our friends have named their children.

I think we might use Matthew if this one is a boy. Not way out, not overly popular, and the shortened version of Matt is also nice.

Heated Mon 14-Jul-08 08:31:09

What are your other dcs called so we can get a sense of your naming style?

LazyLinePainterJane Mon 14-Jul-08 09:03:29

I have a jake, and am after a girls name, but I feel differently about boys and girls names.

I like

Dh likes

We cannot agree and I need new inspiration in the hope if finding something we both like.

Phoenix Mon 14-Jul-08 09:08:54

Girls names i like are

Ds would have been Aimee Jo if he'd been a girl.

LazyLinePainterJane Mon 14-Jul-08 10:05:07

I like Amy and Zoe. ....*ponders

Litterbug Mon 14-Jul-08 10:50:18

My boys are Addison and Dexter

Don't know the sex yet so am struggling to think of names for both!

Sim43 Mon 14-Jul-08 10:52:54

lazypainterjane, havn't we been down this road before? grin

Fimbo Mon 14-Jul-08 10:53:22

I think they should just be known as Child 1 <<surname>>, Child 2 <<surname>> etc and then they can pick their own names at say 21. Whatever you give them, they will not like anyway.

littlewoman Mon 14-Jul-08 11:23:34

Omg, not on your life should you let him name baby (or at least, not if he's half as much a kernob as my XH. No offence, I'm sure your dh is not).

XH wanted to call DS1 Paris. Very nice name, except we live on a housing estate where life ain't easy for a boy named Gay Parree.

Don't let him! Keep thinking grin

littlewoman Mon 14-Jul-08 11:29:53

I like Eleanor and Ruth. They go very nicely together.

LazyLinePainterJane Mon 14-Jul-08 11:30:20

grin Sim, am sowing my oats!

Sim43 Mon 14-Jul-08 12:29:19

Lazypainterjane, have you narrowed it down to any yet?

BlueChampagne Mon 14-Jul-08 13:02:13

Give yourself a break and think of some of the most unsuitable names to go with your surname! Caused much enjoyment in our house.

seeker Mon 14-Jul-08 13:03:51

Did someone say that Matthew doesn't have an "F" sound in it? It does in our bit of Kent!

LazyLinePainterJane Mon 14-Jul-08 13:16:22

No Sim, we haven't

Am fed up. Am asking DH to write a list with 10 names on it that he would seriously consider as him only coming up with 2 is seriously pissing me off. He also thinks that because he has only thought of 2, they should get more serious consideration than any of mine. He thinks it is not possible to come up with 10 names....

Lucky dip? grin
