Honestly, truthfully please. My daughter is called Elizabeth, but we call her Beth. I'm a little conerned that some people call her 'beff' and some say 'our beth' sounding like Arbeth.
Do you think we should shorten it to something else, such as Liza or Elsie?

Beth is lovely and my favourite diminutive of Elizabeth. Stick with it, I say!

Bertolli Sat 05-Jul-08 20:54:41

Yes, well said molly.

Beth is a pretty and lovely name

Absolutely - Beth's lovely.

Beth is a fab name <biased emoticon>

beth is lovely. i'm not so keen on anyone saying "our xxx" though realise that it is sometimes necessary.

CristinaTheAstonishing Sat 05-Jul-08 21:01:53

Beth is nice. Our DD2 has Elizabeth as a middle name and one of her nn is Bets (given by her 3 year old sister).

sweetkitty Sat 05-Jul-08 21:02:19

Love it too DD3 is going to be a Bethany when she finally decides to come out!

onepieceoflollipop Sat 05-Jul-08 21:02:52

We would have chosen Beth but it doesn't go with our surname, so we use another shortened version of the name. People will always try to shorten/cutify names. If they say "our Beth" then they would probably do the same with any other name e.g. "our hashim"

Love it btw, bit envy that it sounds rubbish with our surname!

sweetkitty Sat 05-Jul-08 21:11:32

Beth not good with our surname which is why we like Bethany, she can shorten it later is she wants.

too Little Women for me

mamabea Sat 05-Jul-08 21:14:32

It's my name and I love it too. sometimes get called Beff- but never think about it really.

don't worry about it.

hashim Sat 05-Jul-08 21:39:38

Thanks for making me feel better. I suppose when she is older she can change it to another dimunitive if she so wishes.

greenelizabeth Sat 05-Jul-08 21:43:46

I love Beth. Very pretty. I also like Eliza and Libby but I know a few of them, I think they are more popular. Beth is very pretty and at the moment the rarest nn from Elizabeth, so it's a great name and a lovely nn!

bethoo Sat 05-Jul-08 21:51:26

my name is Elizabeth but am refered to as Beth. i always thought it was much prettier than Liz

kiddiz Sat 05-Jul-08 22:03:03

I love Beth. Wanted dd to be Beth but dh didn't. She has Elizabeth as a second name as a compromise

OurHamsterisevil Mon 07-Jul-08 21:15:13

I adore Beth. I had a childhood friend called Beth. Not short for Elizabeth. Her sister has just called her DD2 Phoebe Beth. Beautiful IMO.

Much prefer it to other shortened versions of Elizabeth

Hulababy Mon 07-Jul-08 21:17:00

Beth is a pretty name; I like it.

andyrobo237 Mon 07-Jul-08 21:22:14

one of my niece's is a 'Beth' just simple and short - it is a great name.

Yorky Mon 07-Jul-08 21:22:21

Beth is lovely, I would use it as a short for Bethany not Elizabeth as there are too many options with Elizabeth which I don't like. If only DH agreed with me it would be much simpler!

Yes I quite like it but am biased here too.

bluenosesaint Mon 07-Jul-08 23:08:17
