My sister in law is thinking of Lola if she has a girl.
Does anybody like it?

i do , i named my mini schnuazer that. as long as her last name doesn't start with L, as ours does, and it's a bit of a mouthful.

FYI and entertainment

I met her in a club down in old soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [lp version:
Coca-cola]
C-o-l-a cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said lola
L-o-l-a lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well Im not the worlds most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Well Im not dumb but I cant understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said dear boy wont you come home with me
Well Im not the worlds most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me

Well thats the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
Its a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Well I left home just a week before
And Id never ever kissed a woman before
But lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy Im gonna make you a man

Well Im not the worlds most masculine man
But I know what I am and Im glad Im a man
And so is lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola

Fine for a pet, but not for a child I think. It's a bit sexual, and I like "proper" names. Lola is a nickname isn't it?

Bit porn star for me.. makes me think of Lolo Ferrari (RIP) and Lolita. Not messages I would be wanting to give my daughter

Wilkiepedia · 17/06/2008 07:10

Nope think it is hideous

One of my family members has called her daughter it and I really hate it

AbbeyA · 17/06/2008 07:10

I don't like it at all.

Has she got another child called Charlie?

Camilla (Parker Bowles) has a grand-daughter called Lola. I like it - but it is considered a 'bit of a try hard name'.

I dislike it. Too sexy for a wee girl.

Too show-girly for a little girl - too cute-sy for an adult woman.

I wish people would remember that they are naming a timid toddler, a fat, spotty teenager, a 30-something career woman, a globe trotting 60 year old, and a 90 year old who wants to be taken seriously on the geriatric ward as well as a georgeous cuddly baby!

I really like it but only as a nickname.

I detect a hint of pessimism in your OP!

I'm not too keen.

I know 6 (!) under twos called Lola - so becoming rather common around here.

Pah! My daughter's 9 so we're well ahead of the curve.

Her twin sister is Scarlet by the way - equally handy were she to need to turn to the oldest profession at any stage .

Lol Justine. Now Scarlet is a name I love .

Report
poppy34 · 17/06/2008 12:12

lol -justine at versatility of name. out of interest what made you go for scarlet? I'm sure reason for recent popularity is the actress scarlett johannson (sorry if spelled this wrongly).

for similar reasons I had long liked the name sienna but that is firmly off list now

Artichokes - Lola doesn't mean sorrows. It is often used as a short form of Dolores which does mean sorrows but it is also used as a short form for many other Spanish names (e.g. Lourdes - Maddona's daughter is known as Lola)
