Just thought I would tell you that my DD is called Lila and I think it is a fab name. I just thought I'd post as people are always asking for ideas and I always want to say Lila but don't as it is a relatively uncommon name and would identify me.

So I thought I would name change just the once to give you all the benefit of my good taste grin

Feel free to use it!

Aah Lila is a beautiful name, it's very pretty and feminine.

Does Lila have a middle name?

dizzydixies Tue 25-Mar-08 15:23:25

I know several and also think its quite pretty

MumtoLila Tue 25-Mar-08 15:44:42

Lila Daphne Elizabeth (after her grandma's). I've not met any others, though would love it if other people picked it (would see it as a validation of my good taste!)

Radley Tue 25-Mar-08 15:50:38

Never heard of it to be honest, but I love it, I also have Elizabeth as the middle name to one of my dd's.

dizzydixies Tue 25-Mar-08 15:58:10

I think its very much up there with Lola, Lily etc at the moment

all equally pretty imo

alfiesbabe Tue 25-Mar-08 16:02:49

Haven't heard of it before so definitely ticks the unusual box!

artichokes Tue 25-Mar-08 16:05:04

Do you pronouce it Lie-la or Lil-a?

dizzydixies Tue 25-Mar-08 16:10:13

its kate moss' daughters name

pn lie-la as in lilo but with an 'a'

wheresthehamster Tue 25-Mar-08 16:18:37

I love it. Isn't Lila the equivalent of Eve in some stories and legends?

slinkiemalinki Tue 25-Mar-08 17:12:08

Lovely name although shame Kate Moss got there first.

pootleflump Tue 25-Mar-08 21:51:07

There's a Lila in dd's ballet class, I wondered whether it was a shortening for something else. It's very pretty.

Piffle Tue 25-Mar-08 21:54:01

I love lila as a name

ja9 Tue 25-Mar-08 21:55:46

love it!

WelliesAndPyjamas Tue 25-Mar-08 21:57:09

it's my mother's name

and yes, you have excellent taste wink

it's of arabic origin, I believe

Other versions are Leyla/Lejla and Layla/Lajla (both very very popoular for girls over here at the moment).
Another very pretty name along the same lines I hear sometimes here is Delila (pronounced De-lil-a) and which if pronounced in the way we are used to (De-lie-la, as in the Tom Jones song) means something entirely different: a drunked waste of space! shock

sophierosie Tue 25-Mar-08 21:57:30

My dd is Olivia and when she was little used to call herself lila (pronounced lee-la). She saw some video footage of herself the other day and loved that she called herself a different name - I used to love calling her Lila!

Ledodgy Tue 25-Mar-08 21:58:27

If I was to have a fourth child (which i'm not) and it was a girl i'd call her lila I love it! Is it the eqivelent of Eve in legends? I have an Eve already!

<ponders on having a fourth because that would be cool> grin

Heated Tue 25-Mar-08 22:01:21

At nursery there is a Lilah and a Lilac and also know of a little girl called Delilah, nn Lila smile

It's a pretty name.

Ledodgy Tue 25-Mar-08 22:05:34

Love Eve, Jack, Tom and Lila. Damn it even passes the card test. Now I feel like i'm missing out if I don't have a little Lila in the future.

<suddenly feeling broody emoticon>

ja9 Tue 25-Mar-08 22:07:07

lilac? shock not so sure about that...

ledodgy - the card test hmm?

suwoo Tue 25-Mar-08 22:08:47

Lila rocks. I think people have been put off by the fact that Kate Moss called her DD Lila, that it might go the way of the Beckhams et al.

pedilia Tue 25-Mar-08 22:09:54

I love itgrin
We are really struggling for girls names for DD who is due in June.
It will be interetsing to see what DH thinks of this, will let you know tommorrow!

MumtoLila Tue 25-Mar-08 22:14:05

We considered Delilah but decided that we would never use it, and I myself have a longer name that no-one ever uses and it's a bit weird.

It is a pain that lots of people don't know how to pronounce it (it's Lie-la) but that's the thing about choosing unusual names. According to the name wizard it was most popular in the 30s, though still unusual.

I'm not sure about the origins of the name, I only know that I heard the name from the Sweet Valley High books I read as a teenager and just really liked the name (despite the character being a bitch!). Jeez, I'd better come up with a better story than that when she asks!

Ledodgy Tue 25-Mar-08 22:16:24

Ja9 that's how I decide on the names of my children I do the card test and the pub test. Card test is how the names sound together on a card and the pub test is imagining meeting a man/woman they like when they are 20 in the pub and they say Hi my name is... if it sounds nice and grows with them it's a keeper. grin

WelliesAndPyjamas Tue 25-Mar-08 22:17:42

it means 'night' or 'midnight' in arabic, iirc
